Last week, I finally took the huge bin of mixed paper to the recycling center. It'd been full for weeks. We were stuffing the overflow into a paper bag, and I'd been letting the junk mail pile up even higher than I am typically notorious for. But on the other hand, there's a great pleasure in getting things back the way they were, and you wouldn't appreciate it nearly as much if it didn't take work or if you didn't go through the inconvience and/or annoyance that gave you the motivation to do the maintenance work in the first place.

That's very true! I've noticed the same thing. It's like how putting on fresh socks after getting your shoes wet in the cold rain is the best feeling in the world. But your normal morning socks don't even register.

Ooh, wet socks are the absolute worst!

Yeah, I'm trying to be more aware of these little pleasures more often, but it's pretty difficult. Guess the brain just doesn't work that way (taking a Psych class, heh).

That was way deeper than I was expecting from a post that started with recycling. Good thoughts. And "90% of life is maintenance" really seems to hit the nail on the head.

Thanks! But I think the deepness owes to the fact that we have a pretty deep bin for recycled paper -- it holds 20 gallons. :)
