It wasn't a decade later. But it did take a while.

Isabelle had traveled to Idris for a visit, with the intention of telling anyone in charge who questioned her business that she was an envoy of the Inquisitor. Of course, she hadn't even gone to see her father when she'd arrived in Alicante. She'd set out to ride to the Academy immediately instead.

And of course, when she'd arrived there... Simon and George had pointed her in the approximate direction of where Flick had gone off to. Some time ago. Amazing.

Looking for her boyfriend on horseback had not been what she'd intended to do on her trip here. And yet, here she was, on a horse that was trotting over a hill while she shielded her eyes from the sun and tried to see into the distance, periodically calling out his name.

"Jon!"

Well, that was great. Now, he was hearing things. He didn't even think he was dehydrated or close enough to being starving that hallucinating would happen but he was sure he'd heard Isabelle's voice.

"Shut up, brain," he muttered, climbing his way over a short hill and then down to the muddy valley below. He kept his eyes on the sun but he was pretty sure he'd just gone in a circle.

"God. Dammit!" Okay, he screamed that one.

Did hallucinations yell back?

Well, maybe some of them did.

This was still Isabelle. She heard his screaming, and immediately pulled on the reins for her horse to stop so she could listen. "Jon?"

Flick stopped and looked around. Was he hearing things? He had to be hearing things.

"Who's there?" he called back, immediately dropping into a defensive position. If someone was going to sneak up on him, he wasn't going down without a fight.
