Today's Tesco delivery came with a very pleased delivery woman who handed me a special box containing a "thank you for being such a great customer" (we probably are: we get a delivery maybe 45 weeks of the year

You could borrow my overlocker to have a play with if you like. I dragged it all the way over from Australia and have only used it once. The grand plans for sewing have not (yet) come to much.
I have somewhat optimistically invested in a book which walks me through drafting patterns, as I am a very non-standard shape. But I'm also putting off doing so until I've lost a bit more weight - so not sure when I'll actually get round to it. Like you, I'm sort of in project overload - have just finished knitting a bundle of baby clothes for an expecting friend, I have a Wonder Woman sweater to finish and I've been intending to make Roman blinds for our bedroom for several months...
I'm lusting after a book about sewing knit fabrics, but I'm determined not to spend money on it until I've made, and subsequently worn, at least two items of clothing.
I cut out a pattern yesterday, and am very unsure that I got the sizing right: my measurements put me at a 16 on the little table, which is sometimes valid for older patterns except that that's the biggest size this one runs to, which makes me think it does use modern dress sizes. I've just (while putting away laundry) laid a few of my tops over it, and I have a feeling it's going to be pretty huge. Hmm. I might pin the pieces together and drape them over me before I do any sewing, on the assumption I can cut it down if needed.
Always better to start big and cutdown anyhow. Full disclosure, I'm actually ok at sewing, thanks to tailor-trained grandmother who taught dressmaking at college level. But lack of any patterns that would actually fit me withered my interest until now, when I have time and also dislike of paying through the nose for clothes I like have conspired to reignite it :)
Some newer patterns (especially those from independent designers*) stop at 16 because they can't be bothered to draft a new block for larger sizes, and a lot of patterns from the major companies that do have bigger sizes have them in two (or more) envelopes.
(* To be fair, it is a lot of work to redraft a pattern for larger or smaller sizes, because once you get a few sizes away from the base pattern the proportions change enough that you basically have to start over.)
