Summary: comment_fic  for hrtslkths : Supernatural, Sam/Castiel, He kept called Sam an abomination to convince himself it was true

Castiel was too close to the Winchester brothers.

Too invested, too curious, too emotional.

He told himself his attachment to Dean was understandable. He had pulled the man out of Hell, and left his mark on Dean’s shoulder.

There was no excuse for the fondness he had for Sam Winchester, however.

Sam had, admittedly, committed far less sins than his brother. He still had hope, still prayed.

He consorted with a demon.

His blood ran tainted with that of Azazel’s, and thirsted for demon blood, for power.

In that sense, he would have been better off sinning.

Castiel told himself Sam Winchester was an abomination, because that’s what his brothers and sisters said, and his siblings wouldn’t lie.

Except they didn’t know.

Castiel told himself Sam Winchester was an abomination. Something tainted, unworthy of forgiveness.

Not because he believed it to be true, but because he wanted to spare himself the all too human

heartbreak of losing something akin to another brother if Sam failed.
