pyrebi : they'd been just a couple of know-nothing kids, playing at getting married at twenty-one, but somehow in the end they made it work
Everyone said it wouldn't work.
Everyone said they were wrapped up in the idea of love and marriage, college sweethearts who believed in love at first sight and 'forever.'
Some speculated the reasoning for the wedding, exchanging looks, and shaking their heads. Jimmy was a good boy, they told each other. He's doing right by her.
Everyone was right, in their own way, however Jimmy and Amelia weren't jaded, they believed in each other.
They lived, loved, fought and struggled like the rest of the world.
Claire made them stronger.
Jimmy prayed for guidance, had faith in God and his family.
Amelia prayed for Jimmy, loved and believed.
Together, they were strongest.
They were a couple of know-nothing kids with a love for each other.
Together, they grew up.
Nobody said it was easy.
Everyone said it wouldn't work.
Everyone was right, it seemed, but who knew at the end of the world, anyway?
The end, as it turned out, was only the beginning.
The being that looked like Jimmy stood before Amelia, straightbacked and solemn.
Jimmy's lips formed words, deeper, more graveled, in Jimmy's not-voice.
He thanked the woman, who was silent and beautiful, in her shock, and Amelia's world lit with light and music, before her husband's body slumped in her arms.
Jimmy Novak woke a whole man sometime later, with his college sweetheart leaning over him, eyes bright and worried.
He kissed her, chaste and sweet and meaningful as he had when they were young, and knew nothing.
Now, they both knew too much, but as they say...whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
The Novaks were yards ahead of the game.
They'd make it work.
