one of my other LJ friends mentioned this. what IS LJ idol? what's the point? I've never heard of it until now.

It's kind of a "Survivor"-esque writing competition. There are topics every week, you write on them, and then people vote for your entry. The person/people with the fewest votes every week are eliminated until there's a winner. I'm not sure what the winner gets, aside from LJ notoriety and the satisfaction of a job well-done. But still. After perusing some of the posts from last year, it looks like some of the participants have compiled some of the best entries and the book is about to be published. So...there's that, too.
