I can't speak for you, but I know that my auditory experience is somewhat similar. I have excellent hearing, but often have trouble understanding what people say. For me a lot of it seems to be the mere fact that I have a lot more data to sort through and filter. It's hard to understand the person sitting across from you in a restaurant when you can also hear the five conversations around you, cars outside, kitchen equipment, the TV in the corner, the fans and lights, and alien spacecraft in orbit. :)

Sounds just like the problem I've got. It's never been fun...

One another note, I was listening to NPR yesterday and they had a fun segment about deaf musicians and the new technology they're coming up with to replace the Butt Shaker.
