last year, soph immediately started coming home from school really jazzed about it, happy and excited and obviously having fun. this year, so far, when she comes home, she's a lot more subdued about it. she is usually good at telling me when something isn't going right for her, and i've asked, but she says class is good. her delivery, tho, leads me

It's hard to get information from the kids, so I would talk to her teachers. Ask them what you can do to help Soph.

I really struggled with the homework issue with K. I didn't put a ton of stress on it. I'm sure in her teacher's eyes that made me a bad parent, but I could see it was crushing my kid.
I think with school, all these things that kids love suddenly become work, and this work is graded and compared to others.

Maybe most people would disagree with me, but when K would get home from school I gave her complete freedom to do whatever she wanted. If that meant slacking on her homework, then that's what happened.

maybe 'dumb' is being thrown around a lot lately in her group, and it's partly the realization of different abilities. ??? i hope/expect it will mellow out soon and she'll have fun. big girl :)
