When we moved into our house we tore out the nasty carpet and repaired the walls and ceiling, among other things. We installed a new floor and windows. A lot of the light switches didn’t turn anything on and a lot of the wall sockets still don’t have any juice ( Read more... )

Oh my god!

There's something really metaphorical and dreamy about this story. It's exactly the kind of minor subplot that happens in a short story or a novel, that is somehow the perfect way to express what people are feeling and not saying. Maybe it's because it's behind the walls. Something about forgotten histories coming back to bite us. Or, you know, overheat us.

The moral of the story is that if you are having a harder time with the heat than others in a Joshua Tree summer, it might not be because you are Canadian.
