Brian Greene is great. We saw him speak in Seattle years ago. I really like his books he explains things really well.

Re-reading Neal Stephenson's Anathem and looking at his page on influences and inspiration for the plot.. the bibliography stemming from that is a bit daunting but very interesting. Another one, in addition to Greene, that I'll be checking up is David Deutsch, who is almost as entertaining in person, don't know whether as good a writer just yet.
