Before reading System Collapse, I actually reread the first 6 MurderBot Diaries books. I don't usually do that, but it had been two and a half years since
book 6, and I was glad I had. System Collapse begins immediately after
book 5, and continues on the same planet. I was hoping MurderBot had moved on with ART, but hopefully in the next book.
Joe and I read System Collapse at about the same time, which was kind of fun. Joe wasn't as impressed as I was, because of the 'been there, done that' story line.
There were 13 sections redacted, which was explained eventually as MurderBot's, well, system collapse.
Highlights:
- I loved MurderBot's idea of a 47 minute documentary (with music) to persuade the colonists of their danger.
- About the surface dock for the drop shaft: The drop box’s arrival and departure even had its own theme music.
- Leonide: One question. Is that actually a SecUnit?
- Murderbot asks why ART hates Holism:
ART: I don’t hate anything. I am discerning in my company. My judgment in this area is impeccable.
MurderBot: It keeps pinging me.
ART: Don’t answer it. It’s doing it to annoy me. - Ratthi and Arada had been talking about putting together a team to work on a trauma recovery program for free SecUnits.
