Hey guys, I wrote an article about Rainbow Raider and the history of DC's similar characters over at Comixfan. It was originally written in June, but just posted today, heh.

Link is here.

Let me know what you think!

I like it it read very fluidly and the pictures were excellent and I hadn't known how much they were all interrelated... that is very cool!

Thanks! It is indeed a very interesting topic -- the more I saw about Quilt, Spectro et al in the beginning, the more I wanted to learn about them. Poor Quilt was included in Wizard Magazine's list of 10 Lamest Villains, along with Raider and Glider.

I spent aaaaages agonizing over which pictures to use :]

I liked it. Information, "meta-information", the relations between the publishing companies...

Thanks! Yeah, the addition of Charlton into the mix is kind of interesting, especially the way they handled Captain Atom being absorbed into DC.

Very informative article! (And terrific choices with the pictures too!)

Pre-helmet Crazy Quilt had to have his targets painted so he could see them? That sounds hilarious-and like a bit of extra work for the flunkies.

So, Pa Kent was the first Rainbow Raider? That's awesome in a silver-agey kinda way. And I love his costume!

I suppose Tom Emery is still locked up; I guess that'd be better than the usual fate the c-listers get these days.

I'm actually kinda "meh" on the new Raiders, mostly because they're not Roy, I guess. They just seem kinda...generic.

Excellent article, Lia! Thanks for posting the link!

Thank you, glad you liked it!

Quilt's minions were strangely devoted to him, despite his blindness and quirks. It would have been cute, except they also ran around machine-gunning people in the early days O_o (he was a total badass)

The funny thing about the Superboy Rainbow Raider stories is that in the second one (a decade after the first), Ma and Pa Kent are quite noticeably de-aged.

Tom Emery last appeared a few years ago, as far as I know. He had several appearances circa 1999-2003, but things have been quiet since. He had a cameo on the Justice League Unlimited cartoon, though, and Roy didn't!

The new Raiders don't have much to offer, so maybe that's why they've only appeared twice. They do seem rather generic.

Thanks again!
