One day, I'm actually going to write an essay on female characters in Harry Potter and why they are A+, because I am so over people hating on them and confusing flaws and vulnerabilities with weakness and character failings.

I agree with ALL of this. I've always loved the way she was portrayed both in the books and the films, and I really don't understand the random hate at all. Is it because fangirls can only accept one strong female character, max? Jo Rowling could've just made it one of those full circle things, with Harry looking like James and Ginny looking like Lily, but she made her into a proper character who had stuff of her own going on. For example, I really loved the casual mentions of boys she was dating or her basically running the Quidditch team. Sure, she changed a lot between CoS and DH, but holy crap, who doesn't change between ages 11 and 16? What the hell, people? *rolls eyes*

That's seriously one of the things that I adore about the world Rowling created - so much is implicit. There's a lot happening around our central three, hell, even stuff that's happening outside of just Harry's scope (particularly I think with Ron, who seems to have more than Hermione happening in terms of a life outside the trio - mostly because of his family). No character is left in the lurch really, from Ginny and Dean dating to even Lavander and Parvati being obsessed with divinations, I mean, everyone has something happening even if it's mentioned only briefly. But yes. The hate Ginny gets is ridiculous. Her character is such a bamf, and she's one that I feel perhaps grows the most across the series, as opposed to the least as some seem to interpret. Idk. I have this ridiculous urge to write huge amounts of badass lady fic though lol.

SERIOUSLY. Orihime gets so much hate too! And I've always adored her, and Ginny. Then again, I've never really understood the reaction some parts of fandom have to female characters in general. They seem to suffer a lot more than their male counterparts in terms of fannish opinion.

They do. But I think its particuarly bad in Orihime/Ginny's case because they dared to be in love with the male character Ichigo/Harry and weren't the main herione Rukia/Hermione?
