she seems an old lover to me

Is anybody keeping up with the new shows this season? I'm contemplating on picking one or two up or at least adding them to my 'to watch eventually' list.

Poll new shows

I'm already watching 'Nikita' and 'Hellcats' (lol, shush, 'Hellcats' is mine and my sister's bonding time. Plus, I have an epic softspot for Ashley Tisdale)

Also, we liked the first episode of Outsourced, but we're NBC Thursday comedy block devotees, so we were likely to just watch whatever was in that extra slot until Parks and Rec returns.

ETA: also, I am watching Hellcats too! I was particularly excited to see Gale Harold show up.

Omg, I love 'Parks and Rec'! And I am kind of tempted with 'Outsourced' tbh, I've just heard really mixed things about it.

And Hellcats! It's actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Actual storylines! Character development! Conflict! Badass routines! It's more than I was expecting, lol. And I was totally taken by surprise when Gale Harold appeared. It was awesome.

Is Outsourced as racist as I've been hearing? I knew they were going to be treading a very thin line ever since I heard the premise but since it premiered I've heard pretty mixed reactions. I wouldn't put it past a show on major network to feature some pretty stereotypical characters and unthinking characterizations but I also know there are unfortunately plenty of people who like to cry racism like the boy cried wolf.

I feel like an idiot even saying so, but I consider myself a pretty aware person, and I don't think it was nearly as offensive as some people have been saying. That said, I'm not Indian, and can't speak for how they would feel about some of the stereotypes that were being portrayed. Those elements were absolutely in play, but I honestly found most of the humour in the call-centre related jokes, and not in the "lol, culture shock" aspects. So maybe I'm the wrong audience. Or the right audience, and they don't realize it. Although I can't even necessarily say they were Indian stereotypes, and more cliche office sitcom tropes. But there's really no room for character development in a pilot, either.

So... yeah. Hopefully it was just the pilot that had aspects of that awkwardness going on, and I'm definitely wary of the show heading off too far into the "oh, those wacky Indian characters". But I'm realizing now that I shouldn't really recommend it until we've had more than one episode. :P

I watched a pre-air of the pilot for No Ordinary Family and was rather underwhelmed. As much as I wanted to like it for the premise and Julie Benz's kick-ass high-powered breadwinner character, the writing & direction just fell flat to me and I did not like the actor who plays her husband at all. Pilots can be shaky, though, so I'd be willing to check out another episode if it happened to be on and I had time.

I've downloaded Boardwalk Empire and definitely have plans to check it out this weekend. I'll probably take a look at The Undercovers too. The rest I'll probably wait and see if people are still talking about them in a couple of weeks.

I've kind of heard that 'No Ordinary Family' is a poor man's 'The Incredibles' which makes me sad, because I have a fairly epic love of 'The Incredibles'. I'll probably wait and see the reaction for a few more eps and then make a decision on whether or not to watch.

I kind of agree. I'm thinking I'll def download 'Boardwalk Empire' and possibly 'Undercovers' too, and I'm kind of tempted with 'Hawaii Five-O' mostly because of my strong desire to support Australian actors working overseas and Alex O'Loughlin is kind of one of my faves in that regard, even though he does a lot of shitty projects lol.

This is still one of my favourite of his pieces of film ever -
