Generally speaking, I always think that the insect hate/fear Australia inspires in other countries is totally overexaggerated, and I try to point that out to my friends overseas.

So, the fact that I was bitten by a spider last night and suffered temporary paralysis in one leg for six hours probably doesn't help my case.

Damn spiders.

Just tell them if they think Australia is bad, they should try Antarctica.

70cm leg span. That's all I'm saying.

Also, at least Australia is warm.

Haha, that's very true! I could never manage in Antarctica. I pretty much die if I'm in under 20C temperatures.

Haha, well I can handle under 20C (it snowed this winter, ugh), but I couldn't handle minus whatever and spiders with 70cm leg spans in Antarctica.

I am! It was pretty horrible when it happened, because it was just pain first and then I stopped being able to move my leg at all. The bite is on my knee, and my knee's pretty swollen and sore as a result, but otherwise I'm okay. :) I haven't had a bite like that in a while.

OMG are you doing ok now? That would be so scary if I was paralyzed, even if it was just partially in one leg.

I'm a lot better now, thank you! My knee's still a little stiff and swollen, but otherwise okay. It was pretty scary. I think my mum was more scared than I was, lol. After a couple of hours, I just tied an icepack to my knee and fell asleep.

I'm generally not afraid of spiders, but what is scary is the fact that you're never entirely sure how you're going to react to them here. Oh well. :) *hugs back* Thanks for being concerned!
