That was fantastic. I gasped aloud when I reached the final part; what a brilliant twist on the original prompt! This story was the perfect combination of hopeful and devastating. I think I'm crying a little.

God, that is gorgeous. Utterly heartbreaking and gorgeous, especially the last bit. I didn't expect the initial incarnation to be the one that didn't work, but I love it.
