Three days after the rather dramatic episode with the kiss and the café and the alternative scene from Romeo and Juliet, Ichigo leaves a bouquet of small red flowers in the mailbox outside Orihime’s apartment.
Orihime isn’t quite sure what she makes of this, so she doesn’t say anything.
Instead, she leaves an origami lotus on his desk, and hopes he knows that it’s from her.

To be perfectly honest, Ichigo isn’t quite sure what’s come over himself.
For one, he isn’t sure why he suddenly has taken a special notice of Inoue, well, that’s not true…he knows, he just doesn’t know why his heart beats that little bit faster, isn’t sure why his palms start to sweat when he sees her. Doesn’t understand because this is the same girl who falls and dances and cooks terribly and does all the exact same things she has always done.
But suddenly he notices all of this a helluva lot more. He notices the way she tosses her head back when she laughs, the way she always brushes her teeth after lunch and tea and maybe skips a tiny bit as she walks.
He isn’t sure why when, on the way home from school yesterday, he saw that bouquet in the florist and immediately thought how nicely it would bring out Orihime’s eyes, and he has no idea why he actually bought it.
After all, giving somebody flowers seems a terribly intimate - romantic even - thing to do for said somebody, especially when you are just friends. Granted, a male and a female friend, but friends none the less.
Because he doesn’t like her, at least not like that. He doesn’t, because she’s just a girl, and yes he wants to protect her, and he wants her to be safe and happy, but he wants that for all of his friends, all of his family.
And-
There’s an origami lotus on his desk.
And really, that’s all Orihime’s ever wanted for him too.
…Maybe he likes her more than he thought he did.

PS. I think this is going to end up being a bit of an arc. In other words, yes, there is more.(other bits will be a bit longer too, hopefully, because this was pathetically short.)
