Shukudai 169: In which Sho (hopefully) learns the valuable life lesson that it's better to fail

Jan 25, 2011 22:36

Sho has quite a reputation to hold up. In reality, one might say he has two reputations to hold up. One is the dignified image of the scion of a prestigious family, the well-educated newscaster idol. And that's a pretty lofty public face ( Read more... )

Ohno should never make this face in relation to food.
Never ever. If Ohno's scared of food we all should run away screaming.

Perfect episode choice. I was always amazed at how Sho, the one most likely to lose at janken, tends to win when winning isn't what he wants to do. Spooky strange luck you've go there, sir.

Of course combine the food torture with fake hypnotism and porn revelations and this one instantly goes down in the books. One of my very favorites.

Thanks for always making me laugh. Happy Sho Day!

I almost forgot to tell you! When I was in LA I found cheese flavored Kit Kats. Had to buy them. They're not bad, if a little odd.

HAPPY SHO DAY! Though it's only Sho day for another 20 minutes here ^^; This means I should sleep flange5 January 26 2011, 05:39:11 UTC
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

you got the European cheese flavor??? COVET. Right now, I still have the shichimi and wazabi flavors hoarded, as well as bitter almond, some fruit ones and a big green tea one. I should eat them before they get wonky.

BUT CHEESE.

I should just order some from jbox ^^; Clearly, it's worth it to me.

I'm glad you enjoyed the post!

Originally, I was thinking about 50, with Yamada Yuu, but this one won out. Food trauma trumps yoga trauma ^^; In the end, I skimmed around 12 episodes to decide, so clearly I was the real winner here. Now I have to read desperately for class tomorrow.

Though I've taught these texts before and the class isn't until 4:30, so no biggie.

You can kind of tell that they're getting oder if they let them talk about the porn. Though part of me wonders how true that story could be ^^; Yet why lie about it? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I'm telling you, even when Sho wins, he fails. That man must have some crazy messed up karma--or is saving up for something really really good.

That's one of the great things about that episode. There's so much to chew over and wonder about. It feels improvised and like we're getting a glimpse in to their personal lives but just how big a glimpse is hard to tell. They've been doing this for years so we know they're skilled enough to be playing with us a bit. But (and this is one of the cool things about them) they're also just five guys who have been friends forever. Personal stuff is bound to come out. One thing's for sure, they're enjoying the hell out of it. XD

Go ahead and get the cheese! They've got a cheesecakey quality but with more of a cheddar bite. Kinda savory sweet and slightly stinky. The store also had pudding flavor which I was tempted to buy but you had to get a whole big bag and I couldn't imagine eating all of it.

It does feel really improvised, doesn't it. I love the looks on each of their faces as if they're each kind of wondering how far the other ones will be willing to go ^^;; And they are so clearly having fun in that exchange. And Aiba. Seriously. That's your idea of saying it within broadcastable limits? I love how he just outs and says it, when he must know that it's totally going to hit the internets twelve seconds after the audience leaves.

I do love that playfulness.

I think I am going to buy a few of the KitKat. At least two, since I know I'm enough of a hoarder that if I just get one I won't eat it, because then it will be gone ^^;

I've had the pudding! It's good! We had to buy it in the bag, too, and ended up dragging across Japan because we weren't going to scarf a whole bag, either. And there are a couple in my fridge ^^; They're good, but the shichimi was by far the best--chocolate with spicy chili pepper&hearts

Oh dear, how could I have possibly forgotten this episode?? It seems that 71 simply eclipsed it in my mind, because here it is, sitting on my external (did it really only air a year and a week ago?).

Sho, darling, You would think that by this point in your life you should know that Murphy's Law fully applies to you and Janken.

And a Happy Sho Day to you!!! I will admit, the Tea flavored ramune sounds like it might be safe/interesting to try. The curry-- frankly it might even terrify me more than the kimchee. XD; Good luck with both flavors, though!!

*off to re-watch episode*

I had the same reaction to this when I was going through my Shukudai list for Sho-centric episodes. My first though was 'huh? they did stinky foods twice??' And then when I watched it, I remembered Aiba's delicious hair and collarbones because sweet Jesus, and then ONLY THEN did I remember the porn bit.

Apparently, the Boy hasn't seen/doesn't remember this one, so we're watching it tonight.

Oh god, yes. The boy is too smart not to have figured that out. I also love how Ogura was totally going to sacrifice Sho without remorse, and even when Sho gets an apparent respite, it means NOTHING.

I am all about the tea ramune. But the curry. *shudders* I am having trouble deciding what exactly constitutes an appropriate occasion to break that nasty stuff out. :P

thus is the power of Shosus XDD

now, the question is: who was the first person that smelling that food thought 'oh this definitely MUST be edible :D'?? oO

*btw missed this stuff*

Absolutely. I'm the same way with merengue and whipped cream--so much work, it's hard to figure out how someone stumbled onto them. The pickled/fermented paste, ok, but if it smells like cat feces . . . who would even think about it? RUN AWAY.

Shosus . . . does have a special ability to bend the rules of reality and probability around himself in ways that are invariably hilarious.

*flails* I missed doing these posts, too! I'm glad you enjoy thme&eharts

When I saw your title, I had a feeling that this is the Shukudai where Sho won the right to eat all the stinky food. XD

At times, it seems like the only things he's strong at are eating and failing.
he is also good at doing gestures while jumping (via jump rope or on a trampoline)

the comedians of Japan would have spread the word not to give Shukudai's staff that excellent an opportunity to torture Arashi and, by extension themselves
True. The Shukudai staff are experts in giving the guests exactly what they ask for with the help of the audience. (I miss the AnS staff)

Sho really had some weird luck at janken here. I sort of expected him to lose since he always gives this impression that he is bad at it (maybe because he lost at that first group janken).

It's a marker of how terrifying the food segment does that the revelation of this tidbit on television barely seems to phase any of Arashi. Sho was the one who chose to talk about the missing video. He could have chosen another topic when Nino did his 'hypnosis' but didn't so I ( ... )

It's true that Sho is really good at trampoline charades. One might note that it's a bizarre form of luck that would also allow him to display such an odd talent ^^;

I miss the Shukudai staff, too. It's clear that the Shiyagare staff are also awesome, but there's not the same sense of history there ^^; I am heartened to hear them guffaw occasionally, though. I'd swear that one of those laughers sounds just like a laugher on G no Arashi and Shukudai.

All the smirking in the porn section--it's clear they seem to be daring each other to actually say it. The passing of the buck from one member to another is kind of priceless ^^;

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! DVD!!! Mine isn't here yet, but with the distance, I didn't really expect it to ^^;

The Boy doesn't remember this episode so we're going to watch it--with dinner. I just realized that that's a bit odd ^^;

I'm so glad you liked it! The funny thing is that I had totally forgotten that there were two stinky foods eps until I started hunting through my Shukudais. As an added present for me, I found it after watching about 5 other episodes. Yay me!

>_>

Though I was scrambling all day today to get reading done before class ^^;

haha yeah, I was wondering where the Swedish rotten fish was and then I realized there were TWO episodes about stinky food. Poor guests, they clearly never did their homework. ;)

Heh. We rewatched AnS 71 with the Swedish fish last night because we're gluttons for punishment and because my recently-baited friend hadn't seen it. She's started her TV bingeing on VSA, which I find an odd choice, but whatever ^^; Not everyone will love MMA and AnS like I do. She's essentially copying my entire hard drive as she clears up memory, so she'll randomly start talking about things I haven't seen in two or three years and I'll be confused for a while ^^;

Oh lord. I have to wonder about guests who don't do their homework *shakes head* So many people, usually, but not always comedians, make the most masochistic choices. I'm sure Staff-san encouraged this greatly ^^;
