'So much to live for, so much to die for / If only my heart had a home' - current music

This post is tagged 'religion', but my main point is not to discuss an element of Christianity or any other specific religion. Please keep reading if you're interested in friendship, insecurity, self-confidence, or any similar attitudes; I would like to hear others' thoughts or advice.

Other thoughts I've recently had during religious services )

Regarding "gifts", this is the most relevant thing I can think of at the moment, from the introduction to Naomi Wolf's _The Treehouse_ ( ... )

I'm recently (and not so recently) interested in the self-centered or not question as related to spirituality. That is, in order to be a "good," or "noble" or "properly spiritual" person, or something, you have to have empathy with people in the world, help them, and share anything you have ($, knowledge, skills, etc.) for the good of others. However, in order to do this in the way of God, you have to truly know yourself and learn how to understand and help. In order to love everyone, you have to love yourself (this sounds really dumb to write it). I've gotten these ideas from a large number of religious, spiritual, and social encounters and learnings over the years. So, you have to be self-centered, but only in the way of reaching out, or something. Is this familiar to you all?
