*step* shuffle-step shuffle-step rock-step

I'd like to write an entry tomorrow on many exciting things (last weekend was awesome, and it's been a productive week), but for now, this is worthy of its very own entry.

The band played the old-time version of Sandy Boys, plus variations, for a whole dance tonight. Best tune set ever. :)

contra, awesome, ritual

I didn't make it to the dance last night (as you probably figured out already), but perhaps I shall see you around West Philly sometime.

I love Sandy Boys. One of the first tunes I learned.

Have I mentioned how insanely excited I am that I'll be learning the longsword dance this coming school year?!

Hrm... I'd think of it more as *step* shuffle step shuffle step rock-step
Reminds me of trying to read and decipher other Irish dancer's transcriptions or songs/chants of steps. Though, that was also made more difficult by the different variations in names for different moves ie. some say shuffle, some would say something else that was really popular but I'm forgetting what it was, I learned them as "ta-das" ('and drop ta-da and drop ta-da and drop ta-da hop-back'). There were also some ambiguious terms. "Bang" was one of those. Did it mean a "toe", hitting the tip of your toe down behind you... or a "stomp" where the whole foot is slammed into the floor, usually in front of the other foot.

Sandy Boys definitely rocks, though. Would've loved to hear the variations.

Yeah, I think you're totally right. I think I was momentarily thinking merely of the 'plain' step (I think FiddleKicks calls it the Alamo?), not the actual step used in Sandy Boys. I changed it. :)

I really really want to learn more hardshoe...but some kind other than Appalachian (and the times for both the FK class and practice are inconvenient -- Wednesday evening and hella early Saturday morning).
