Embarrasment Squick

Ghost and I had a conversation about TV shows that hit my embarrassment squick and why, and I came to some realizations trying to explain it to him. I can watch Community with no problems, only have passing blushes for Coupling, Big Bang Theory with some squirming, can no longer watch It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and can't do even the first ( Read more... )

I completely understand this. I have some squicks like that. Lee wanted me to see the film Malena (starring Monica Bellucci) because it was so beautiful. But I could only get through a bit of it because it felt terrible, even though it's a gorgeous film. I don't think I am "so beautiful", but I know what being powerless and objectified feels like. It's horrible. And I couldn't explain why I couldn't enjoy watching the film. I think I can now. Thank you.

I have embaressment squick too. I have a hard timewatching the way Sheldon's treated because I'm thinking ' is this how I'm viewed? Am I being just tolertated and laughed at?'

I cried at the doctor's office Friday because I couldn't handle interacting with all those people for hours and then have my doctor ask me a question I didn't know how to answer.

Hugs if you want them for having to deal withall that in highschool.

I react to television with passive viewership because I can't affect the action; I react to real life with a sense of agency because I can do something about it. When something on TV is messed up, I feel powerless to do damage control; I can't make things better for the person I'm identifying with. And that helpless feeling flashes back to the same state-dependent memory of being in all of those situations before. I can't save them. And I have a thing about saving people.

My control issues have control issues. *facepalm*

I have a LOT of these issues, too. *hugs* It is TERRIBLE.

However, speaking from that place? Skip the first season of Parks and Rec (seriously, you don't need it) and it will be much more tolerable, and by the end of season two you'll be in love.

If I watch Season 2 first and then go back and watch season 1 after I have the knowledge that it will be okay that might work. Thanks for the plan!
