Nothing new, but I've been following this almost against my will without much comment anywhere. I dunno how much you guys have been following the situation; I've seen surprisingly little about it in LJ in general (maybe I hang in the wrong circles?), and I just read a bit more elsewhere and am feeling all "WTF is wrong with the world"y, so I ( Read more... )

I'm with you, the whole affair sickens me. I hate the whole ego involved,
with other celebrities thinking they can and should interfere with the
judicial process. If he were innocent, he had a chance to be found innocent.
The jerk pled guilty and then fled, never taking responsibility for his actions.

A lot of celebrities have children now, how would they like their tender little child drugged,
liquored up and raped and sodomized? They'd be out for blood. But who cares about someone else's child, especially if the assailant is famous. UGH.

And did the mother ever face charges of child neglect or prostitution? Where the hell was she?

Yes, and I think ego is very much the word--this sort of untouchable celebrity mindset, or this idea that filmmakers must stand together regardless, or something. It's sickening.

I'm not entirely clear on the mom stuff, so I'm not going to really say much; I just know on one of my boards someone claimed that there was pretty much implicit parental consent (possibly they just meant in that she pushed her kid to hang out with show bizzy people? Not sure) or something which of course makes it all okay. Wait, what?

This is disgusting. I never knew about it, actually, and had to look it up after reading some of this, but what the fuck?

And you're right, the only defense there seems to be is "OMG HE CANT GO TO PRISON WHAT IF HE WANTS TO MAKE MORE MOOOVIES???"

Heh, sorry you had to learn the hard way.

And yeah, that's pretty much it. Ugh.

He's a very talented director. He's also a monster. Talented director+rape=go to jail, do not pass go, do not go to France.

Yeah, you would think so. But clearly, [insert celeb reason why it's not so]. *eyeroll x 10000*

Gee... that's sad. I looked up photos of Samantha Geimer on google, and the first one I looked at came up with the description saying "victim" in quotation marks.

'Cause, you know, those 13-year-olds are always so manipulative and evil, the way they seduce those adult men all the time.

Huh, I thought I'd replied to this. Yeah, that pisses me off. 13-year-old girls are generally reading lame YA fiction and secretly playing with their Barbies when they think no one's looking, not so much the seduction of adult men. In my experience. Frickin' people.
