So many ways to avoid the hard work of writing. Including doing different writing.

Okay, so, the problem with having now six WiPs is that I both hate the fiddly final polish phase of writing when I have to make sure the words on the page actually get across what's in my head and am also very particular about that phase, so it's easy for me to shun the now three stories that need a good polish for posting and instead work on other ( Read more... )

Obviously you can't talk with him about the mature part of it, but fanfic could be an interesting general writing exercise for him if he wants to be creative and imaginative. What kinds of shows does he watch? You could encourage him to think of "what if" questions involving an episode. And they could be funny or serious or whatever. :D

What if Burt and Ernie visited the Big Apple? ;)
What do you think happened next after the scene in x show ended?
What if instead of x happening in that episode, y happened instead?

Could be fun!

I love that museling is so creative and enthusiastic about it. That's really cool.

Oh, sure, we talk about that kind of thing all the time! He often plays with characters from different sources (like Elsa from Frozen and Batman hanging out in a Lego beach house he made) and acts out stories with them, so he's familiar with the idea. He's also written his own take on some favorite books, like a spin on The Day The Crayons Quit. :)

It's more that he's going to want to know exactly what my current story is about, and which characters I'm using from what source material, and it's going to open up a whole big can of worms about fandoms and stuff. So I've been deliberately vague about my writing for years - and since I do write original fiction, I talk more about that - but we've reached a point where I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and let him interrogate me. :D ( ... )

That is so fantastic. I love that. :)

And on a personal level, I've appreciated the avenue as a way to explore writing and character. Your own writings are rich with character and relationship explorations. So I ( ... )
