Glee fandom, you're going to kill me.

Usually I put things like this behind cut tags, but since this rant is specifically about people not using cut tags it seems more appropriate not to use one. :P Sorry ( Read more... )

i heart fandom (sometimes with irony), lj and me

I know nothing about temp agencies, I'm afraid. Don't apply to work in the Harvard libraries if you want a position for more than a year, though, btw; they're undergoing huge changes right at the moment.

*hugs you so much* I'm thinking of you. I know this must be super stressful and unhappy-making.

I'm with you. I've been avoiding Tumblr and such, but have been spoiled by a few fics and comments here.
I don't like it because half the time it either doesn't happen or happens differently and I can't stand everyone getting hysterical about a TV show that hasn't even aired yet. Yes, I like Glee, maybe even love Glee, but I can't work myself into a frenzy about things that haven't happened.
I want to live in the present! I hate getting bits and pieces of the future!!

Yeah, I refuse to work myself up into too much of a frenzy about anything until I see something on my screen (or have an actual, real, sourced, specific, reliable transcript). Glee is the worst for things being reliable.

I may invest in Brittany's time machine that she is working on...just so I don't have to go through all this!

I sympathise so much -- last season I got spoiled for the Kurt/Blaine kiss because someone on my flist posted a gif of it outside a cut because 'everyone knows it happened by now!!!!' I was literally like, 'I'm in the UK so no I didn't, and I've been waiting all series for this and I can't believe you just did that.' How hard is it to cut stuff or white text it just in case, you know? Sadly I think the only solution is to go into hiding :/.

!!!!!!!

OMG, I am horrified on your behalf!!!!! That was my favorite squeaky-noises unspoiled moment of the season.

I cut just in case. I mean, I wouldn't even mention which episodes above in which I rewound scenes, nevertheless what the scenes are, and I felt bad about mentioning the end of Buffy and Angel and they've been off the air for YEARS. Err on the side of cutting, I say!

To make it worse, I was having a REALLY bad day, and CLINGING to the fact I could download Glee later, so I had this really meladramatic moment of, WELL NOW I HAVE NO REASON TO LIVE. Which I soon got over because I hunted out the clip on YouTube and watched it 14 times, but I still really regret knowing it was coming because it just wasn't the same.

I also had a similar experience where someone remembered to cut for spoilers, but used an icon on their post with 'character/charter ENGAGED AT LAST!!!' emblazoned on it. Oh, thanks - I've no idea what the spoiler is now, lol.

Ha ha ha, the icon thing, I'm sorry, that's awful, but it's still hilarious. People are so clueless.

I know. It just isn't the same. I didn't know about the kiss or the I love you, and both times it was AMAZING to be unspoiled.

p.s. Merlin! Merlin! New Merlin! Merlin, Merlin, Merlin!

IT IS NOT HARD, PEOPLE. It really isn't. stoney321 September 26 2011, 15:43:44 UTC
AS SOMEONE THAT WANTED SPOILERS FOR GLEE S3, LET ME GIVE YOU A BIG AMEN.

Because the fandom is filled with crazy people who go bananas and then the spoilers get out of whack, or are RED HERRINGS and bah.

I get the same reaction to spoilers - very deflated feeling. NO MORE FOR ME. None.

You, me and flaming_muse should form some sort of internet commune where we won't be spoiled...a Glee-topia if you will...

SO SO TRUE. Like, I can't trust the spoilers, and I can't trust the reaction to them because it's a big crazy game of telephone with RM on the end laughing his ass off.

No this has gotten ridiculous and I'm someone who doesn't mind being spoiled and seeks them out when I feel the need to know but oh my god, it's like Glee fandom has forgotten exactly what you're saying: "this is about Kurt's mermaid status" is a spoiler. Saying "this story has spoilers" or "deals with spoilers from an upcoming episode" (and doesn't say the name of the episode, c'mon!) is fine and cutting that part out of summary headers or putting it behind the handy lj cut is the correct response. But it's everywhere and it's impossible to stay unspoiled. I think the only place that's safe for me to keep from running into crazy spoiler free for alls is on my flist since my flist is mostly SPN/Doctor Who/BtVS people. So basically people who don't watch Glee. Dude, not fair, I like talking 'bout Glee too ( ... )

I think I'm used to being in fandoms with more adults or more long-term fans; Glee (and I would assume HP) has a younger and more Tumblr-focused presence, and I feel like that might be part of the difference in the mind-set. So the usual concern about cut-tags and caring for other fans isn't a part of what most of the (vocal) fans seem to be focused on in Glee. It's all spoilers and foilers all the time.

This is so true. I add people very, very slowly, so most of my friends are from the Jossverse days. But I've been adding Glee authors I like here and there so that I can follow fic and squee, and now I'm coming to regret it. It's ridiculous. Being kind to fellow fans is really not that hard. And it's only Glee that's the problem for me thus far, because even the H50 authors I've ( ... )

There is mad entitlement that occurs in Glee fandom that often floors me (probably because I've seen it up close since I've gone to a couple of Darren's gigs this year).

I have accepted that to Tumbl(e), I will get my ass spoiled. I love the pretty too much. There are a few kind souls who don't spoil hardcore but it's hard out there. Curse this couple for being so photogenic. I love reading deep thoughts about Glee but it's so hard to parse through fandom's spoiler frenzy to get to the deep thinky stuff that inspires me to write. I'm fortunate that the handful of authors I've added to my flist (I'm another "slow to add" person) know spoiler etiquette but it is ridiculous at k_bl, the spoilers have gone wild.

Yeah, I got to get up close and personal with some very entitled fans with horrifically bad boundaries with the cast at the Glee tour this summer, and I still have a bad taste in my mouth about it.

I don't think you can be on Tumblr and not get spoiled. I love the pretty and the meta, but I couldn't stand the rest.
