Yes, he is! I see Gabriel as having a lot of similarities to Dean, which is why he knows exactly what buttons to push and for how long. Their interactions during the fifth season are some of my favorite moments in the entire show.

Trench-coated angel actually refers to Castiel due to his constant wearing of it. Gabriel wasn't present in that scene until he appeared behind Dean's chair. :)
