trees and television

I ended up with a grand total of three trees during the lj tree-planting extravaganza. Three trees! (Try saying that ten times fast.) I felt like a forestry tycoon. The trees are gone from my profile now, but they still grown in my heart! ...or not, because that sounds uncomfortable. But thank you so much, again, anonymous tree-planting people. They made me very happy.

I'm back now, but not caught up on lj, and I suspect I never will be; non-fannish life is keeping me pretty busy. So if anything life-changing happened to you, or you posted the best story/vid ever, or you think someone else posted the best story/vid ever, or you accidentally broke fandom, please comment here to tell me about it? *winsome look*

It's possible I may be nearly caught up on my shows, though. I don't know when I started watching so many, although I do usuallly know who to blame for it. SGA (merryish's fault) and Avatar (therienne's fault) are on the back-burner now, and all that Boy Meets World (merryish's fault) that I watched around yuletide doesn't count, but I'm keeping up with Criminal Minds (merryish's fault) and CSI (probably my own fault, that one) and Doctor Who (I'm pretty sure that's therienne's fault) and The Dresden Files (merryish's fault) and Numb3rs (also merryish's fault, are you sensing a theme here? Because I am), and waiting for Torchwood to return, though I don't have anyone to blame for that one, either, I think.

It's very relaxing to watch things like CSI and Numb3rs and Criminal Minds. Procedural candy, for me. In fact, I'm starting to think I should have saved a few episodes for when Avatar starts up again, since that's the show that has most reliably gotten me all wrought up and heart-wrung. Just thinking about Tales of Ba Sing Sei makes me suspiciously sniffly, although I can blame it on allergies, this time of year.

I'm about halfway through Dexter, which is marycrawford's fault.

Also, there is this Supernatural thing. I tried watching it back when, and bailed after a few episodes, but for various not very clear reasons that I can't entirely blame on anyone else, I decided to try again, so I started over, and elynross very kindly watched along with me in chat so I could comment at her. (The internet really is kind of amazing that way.) This time around, I found s1 pretty (and) enjoyable, and then I started on s2, which is just... I was going to say candy again, but I think it's more like cheap port. (I like cheap port. *g*) So I've been binge-watching, and episodes like Born Under a Bad Sign and Heart in particular have made me go whee! and chortle with delight. So much fun, I can't believe I resisted for so long, except I really do prefer to watch a lot of a show in one go, for the immersive effect. Maybe I'll wait a year before I watch it again.

...or not. Yeah.

(I'm also sort of looking for Supernatural fanfic (gen or smarm or slash or possibly het) that is not described on rec pages as "painfully true" or "hurts so good" or "cuts to the bone" etc, not that there's anything wrong with that. Any tips on how to proceed, or am I just out of luck and the fandom really doesn't have a lighter side? I was hoping it was just well hidden.)

csi, dexter, avatar, sga, tv, numb3rs, recs, criminal minds
