I'm working on updating my links to slash(y) recs pages, and right now, about halfway through, I stopped and counted: 81 links to single-fandom recs, 208 to multi-fandom ones. I expect I'll weed out a few non-working links over the next hour, but add more than I remove. It's making me feel Quite Faint ( Read more... )

In the "rec own stories?" question I chose "no", but on the other hand, I do make posts on communitites simply stating if I've written a recent story in the requisite fandom. So if that's what you meant, consider it "sometimes" :-)

No, that wasn't what I meant, so I think your vote came out right. I mean, I don't consider it a rec when ppl post story announcements - that's more like posting to a mailing list. (At least in my fandom, which doesn't do mailing lists. *g*)

I didn't use rec pages at all in my first two fandoms, Hard Core Logo and due South, because they both had centralized, easily searchable archives. But in both popslash and now in HP, I'm finding them indispensable for wading through the crap and finding the kinds of stories I want to read. In a new fandom without good archives, nothing is better than finding out that an author I love has a good rec page, you know?

Centralized archives. man. Remember what that was like? Popslash has no archives, and HP has a zillion, I don't know what's worse. *g* That's how I got into popslash, too, finding someone whose stuff I liked and then following their links and hoping they had a rec page.

I think "Do you have your own rec page?" needs a "Yes, but I never update it" option. I know that's the one I would have chosen. *grins*

*nodnod* That's the one I really should have picked, too...

*hit by sudden realisation* omg I do rec my own stories! Scratch that.

The format of my recs page was inspired by yours. Like. Aren't you awfully impressed at your ability to Influence Minds From Afar all unknowing?

I started a recs page mainly so that I could easily keep track of the stories I like. ;-) Sad but true. Not an original thought in it.

That's not a bad system, though. :) *goes to link*
