Thank You Drabbles and Ficlets for brightknightie

This ficathon was brightknightie's inspiration from the beginning. She built the community, its links, its images, and everything. It was her hard work that put together the admin posts, that was responsible for the pairings of the writers and recipients, that kept everything running smoothly. In return, those who were able (and for whom I was able to find ( Read more... )

Wow.  I am utterly overwhelmed -- and perhaps a little in shock. :-)  I came home from dinner and a movie to find these two posts at the top of the community and my f-list.  Thank you all so much!  I am honored and grateful.  Thank you to Greer, Leela, Merfilly, Natmerc and Skieswideopen on this post, and to Amilyn, Greer, Twilight and Wiliqueen on the other!  Thanks to Amilyn for her thoughtfulness.

I have not yet had a chance to read all these wonderful presents to me and to us all; I will be back with comments as soon as I catch up!

You guys are wonderful.  Thank you.

Thank YOU for all you've done. I've written things I'm PROUD of, and that feels good...and it's because of you. I've heard several folks talk about how neat it feels to have revisited FK and have written for it...and that's because of you.

None of this would have happened without you, and I am grateful. You have done such a beautiful job, with grace and skill and aplomb, and certainly without help from me other than cheerleading. I am selfishly thrilled with the result, and, as much as you love New FK Stories, I figured the best thank you hug we could give you (because I wanted to give you a big HUG--see icon) was MORE new fic.

So...you're welcome and, again, thank you so much. But, yes, you're very welcome, and I think we all feel that this and so much more are simply your just desserts because of your hard work and dedication out of pure love. You are appreciated...and loved.

skieswideopen, thank you for "And the Weight of Night Upon My Shoulders"! I enjoyed it very much. It is rich and bittersweet, in a future sweeping past its years of developments to arrive at an emotional climax that is also a deep personal dilemma with no easy resolution. It reminds me happily of the "Forever Not" challenge issued on fkfic-l before third season. My favorite lines are:
  • "...constant companion in their mutual quest to regain the humanity that they had both lost, and that she had regained and lost again."
  • "Not wasted, she told herself firmly, but mourned nonetheless."
  • "She'd never been able to look away. That was why she was here, after all."

A million years ago -- circa '97 ;-) -- I toyed with a "Mortal Beloved" variation on the "Immortal Beloved" Nick/Janette faction, so I could fancy them exactly like this, sharing the quest. Thank you for sharing!

I agree with brightknightie. There's so much behind these few words. And such a choice, I can see this going in more than one way.

Just lovely.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

Frankly, I'm not sure how they'll choose. Nick's been looking longer, but he also deprived Janette of her cure, after a fashion. I think my preference would be for both of them to reject it until they could a cure they could both share.

You're very welcome!

I was an IB member, way back when. A Mortal Beloved version would have been interesting.

natmerc, thank you for "The Cup"! I found it creepily satisfying. That's precisely the sort of dilemma I imagined for the prompt, and I'm impressed at how many canonical references you packed into the itty-bitty space of a drabble. We have Alyce and the events of "Dark Knight," plus Feliks and the information from "Blood Money," perhaps even a faint allusion to the hearts-blood/stopping-the-heart connoisseur thing from "Francesca," and of course the gunshot from "Night in Question" affecting Nick's memory! I enjoyed following that trail of canon references, and ending up at Nick's implied return to the start in more ways that one -- "the girl or the cup," my hero, has always been your choice.

Thank you for sharing!

Great drabble, natmerc. I love that you return the moral dilemma back to the same one from Dark Knight.

leela-cat, thank you for "Heart's Blood"! The jade cups were in my mind when I composed the prompt, and you use them to take us back appropriately to "the girl or the cup," as Lacroix put it when he dropped the original to smash on the concrete floor, and as Serena scored him ("Wouldn't you...?") in "Baby, Baby." I feel that the requirements you impose here, of love between the vampire and human in question, domesticate the "The Human Factor" mess ( ... )

Thank you so much. I'm really glad you liked the drabble.

And thank you again, for all of your hard work on this fest. You did a great job.

merfilly, thank you for "Long Distance Friend"! I'm delighted to see the Toeffler family from "1966." Those are most definitely among the one-episode mortal friends I had in mind with that prompt. I presume that we are hearing, here, a conversation in which Nick learns that old Mr. Toeffler has died. Your drabble is very much in the spirit of that episode's tag, which is such a first-season delight (I love "1966;" it's one of my favorite episodes). Here, I like best the laugh, the comfortable silence, and the gratitude. Friendship.

Thank you for sharing!

This drabble gives us a lovely moment between two friends. Nicely done, merfilly.
