Delicate and lovely. The myriad connections to other moments, other people, are just right -- never heavy-handed, just exactly how the mind works. The past is always with us.

I'm particularly struck by Urs thinking, in the midst of Nick's moment of self-absorption, that she knows why Janette left, and then wondering in the closing sentence how she could have.

They made Urs such an intriguing puzzle, and then gave us so few pieces. She deserved to be more than a prettily worried prop. This is a very worthy addition indeed to the body of fic addressing that.

Thank you so very much.

I don't think Nick will (or can) ever let go of anything or anyone in his life, and so the connections are ever-present with him.

And, having rewatched so many third season episodes when writing this, you're absolutely right about Urs. She was such a sadly underused character.

Lovely characterization-especially of Urs, balancing her desire for oblivion with her lingering hope of hope. That Nick can be a real bore with his reminiscences is another nice touch. One can see here how the two might find at least a night's peace with each other.

Thank you. I'm so glad that you liked Urs in this. She's so much more complex than she appears at first glance.

Thank you.

There's definitely a connection between Nick and Urs on the show; the hints are very broad. And they're so very much alike in so many interesting ways.

My FK is clearly rustier than the others who are leaving such perceptive comments, but . . . fwiw, I really liked this, and the approach you've taken to Urs, and the connection you've made between them.

Thank you. I'm so glad you liked it.

As for FK, you're not the only one who became rusty. I had to be pretty obsessive about rewatching episodes until I could make the connections again.
