This is utterly fantastic. Pitch-perfect case, and just enough hints dropped all the way along about what Schanke is observing... but not to the conclusion we might expect! And a hereditary vampire hunter, how awesome is that!

Go, Donut!!

Thank you so much!

I'm glad to hear that the hints dropped along the way worked out; I was a little concerned as that's one of the things that's really hard to judge from the writer's perspective.

Oh, this is lovely. "Close Call" evidently didn't come out of the blue. And a cop story, too-I do love it when there's some real detection going on. Also, Schanke's very well handled here. There's a proper partnership between them, even when each of them (!) keeps a few secrets.

I'm glad you liked it! And I'm glad that Schanke worked for you--he's a lot of fun, but he's not the kind of character I usually write, so he was a bit of a challenge.

Delightful! I didn't catch on till almost at the end what Don had figured out. Some people can be so smart in some things and so deficient in others. You've captured that marvelously.

Thank you!

I'm glad the ending came as a bit of a surprise.

And of course, if all vampires are monsters, one can hardly blame Schanke for not realizing his partner's a vampire. After all, Nick's not a monster! :D

Schanke! Oh, I love when Schanke gets to do all the awesome cop work he's so good at.

Yeah, Schanke deserves some of the spotlight. There is, after all, a reason he made detective.

I love turnabout stories like this, where one small twist changes the appearance of everything.

It's so great to see Schanke taking care of Nick and the irony of him becoming a vampire killer in the process.

What a great addition to the FK fanfic 'verses.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the twist--and Schanke taking care of Nick for once.
