"No offense, but that's way out of my line of work." brightknightie May 27 2010, 18:51:42 UTC
Congratulations on your third story in this fest. As discussed, only one was required, but the effort and commitment of three is respected and appreciated.

In "Incident at Black Rock," I enjoyed the inspiration to set the crime, and police investigation, in the basement of the Raven, near many things Janette would prefer not to display to outsiders. I also appreciated Natalie referring Nick to the constables for information; her place in the series structure is often to supply all sorts of information outside her actual expertise, standing in for the entire forensics team that would actually be required, and it's amusing to have that tweaked on occasion. I also appreciated Janette expressing a sentiment opposed to the inconvenience of travel, looking forward to the eventual stability of the Raven.

Thank you for sharing.

Janette

I've never been a particular fan of Janette until 1/ the prompts included her as a character of interest, so of course she had to be included, and 2/ a number of the stories posted dealt directly with her. But then I've always thought of her as drop-dead (pardon the pun) gorgeous.

It's made me think about her and made me realize just how interesting a character she is. I think a lot of people underestimate Janette - give her credit, she's lived a thousand years, and has survived alone and on her own many times, not just with LC or Nick. Most interesting though is that we tend to forget her vampire nature. She *is* a vampire and (for the most part) feels no guilt about it.

Interesting case, and nice flashback. I love Janette putting up her very put-upon protest but still being practical about keeping up appearances, especially "Should I faint for them too?"

I enjoyed this. Interesting set up for the crime story. The flashback was full of humour. My favourite line was this:

>>"Too many," Nick replied.

"I can answer for myself, Nicholas," LaCroix said, and he turned to Janette and said, "Too many, my dear." Nick just frowned with an exasperated expression on his face.<<

Two great stories in one. :)

I like the "Should I faint for them?" and LaCroix repeating Nick's "Too many" answers.

Thanks.

I can just see Janette glaring at Nick and saying that. Such gentle sarcasm probably went completely over Nick's head. He's just lucky he didn't say "yes". She'd probably have staked him! ;-) I think Janette often got put out with the boys but was too much of a lady to make a scene about it.

And LC simply did that to annoy Nick.

Actually, I guess Nick did effectively say "yes", didn't he?

' Nick interrupted with, "That might be a good idea." '

I think Janette has more patience and practicality than either of the guys put together.
