The fact that Wright was actually offering him some form of sarcasm as opposed to prolonging the awkwardness went a long way toward dispelling it; though the sense of questioning hadn't entirely faded from his features at Wright's words, Kristoph found himself physically relaxing nonetheless - his fingertips loosened the hold that he had taken against his sleeves, and some of the tension that had gripped his posture released him. As Phoenix and Kristoph made their way down the stairs, the door shut behind them, and it was clear that the waitress wasn't planning on coming down with them. The idea that they weren't accompanied by anyone from above creeped Phoenix out to an extent - the small hallway was dark, only lit by small lights on the walls, and it was distinctly dungeonesque ( ... )

Upon first glance, the room hadn't left the most striking of impressions; the walls were sufficiently dungeonesque to fit in with the rest of the place - complete with cracked, flaking plaster that had either had some sort of sledgehammer taken to it recently or had simply been completely ignored for some time; given the location, he wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter, though it was amazing what would be done for the sake of atmosphere - but there were quite a few touches that were decidedly modern. The wooden table dominating the center of the room was one of them; the chairs were another, as their design appeared to be recent and they were upholstered in some garish red material that appeared to be some sort of leather. Hideous though the color was, it didn't appear to have faded too badly, as he would have expected from something older.

Overall, it wasn't anything spectacular, and the window seemed of no general consequence; obviously it was there for a reason, but it wasn't anything immediate. After all, he would be ( ... )

Phoenix was slightly surprised when Kristoph turned to face him, and he took a step back, as the motion had brought them incredibly close. The look on Phoenix's face was mildly uncertain as his expression settled, as if Phoenix was unsure as to whether or not he should tease or take Kristoph's concern seriously ( ... )
