I'm working on a module outline for creative writing students and I need examples of stories (preferably short) which are riffs on other texts (meta-textual in fact).

I have:

Neil Gaiman, “The Problem With Susan”
Jean Rhys, The Wide Sargasso Sea (extract)
Nalo Hopkinson, “Riding the Red”

But I need one or two more examples which *aren't* fantasy (and one written by a man would be helpful, my current list on the course is about seventy percent women).

Any ideas?

Edit. By *not fantasy* I absolutely and totally meant *and not science fiction either*.
