The Xmas that almost wasn't

Every year Mom says she doesn't want a gift and every year my siblings and I go together to get her a gift. Last year it was the entire Forever Knight collection and this year it was Tour of Duty. God, I'd have been sick to my stomach the entire three weeks. I'm very glad that your mother did not follow through on her threat.

This needs to be published somewhere. What a fantastic story!

I used to search out my gifts. One year, I was particularly successful and found all of them, even going so far as to open paper to peer underneath. It made xmas morning a seriously anti-climactic moment and not only did I stop searching for gifts beforehand, but I gave up on having curiosity over wrapped packages.

Yes, I can leave a gift addressed to me unopened for months if need be. Personally, I've never forgotten that incredible realization that all I did was cheat myself out of the pleasure of discovery at its appropriate time.

I still like to shake wrapped packages and guess what's inside, but there aren't many packages to shake and guess since I live alone. I am better about giving gifts now. I can actually wait until the appointed day to give them and not give them as soon as I get them.
