I found Birds of Prey to be a gateway drug to comics, but that's mainly because I started following Helena around the DCU which led me reading anything Rucka ever wrote.

I think it would've worked that way for me too if I hadn't come in hilariously late to the party. Now I sit in my corner crying and quietly shipping Helena with everybody.
