Heh, that is awesome. It's like plant genital mutilation! Yes, it is odd. Someday the aliens will come, note this strange custom, and raise a mighty eyebrow. Assuming they have eyebrows, which isn't necessarily a safe thing to assume.
I don't really have a favorite flower, but I was tempted to pick up a potted orchid at Trader Joe's recently. I refrained because I did not know if my cat would be tempted to eat it, and what the effect on his digestive system would be if he did.

If you look at it as severed sex organs, it becomes strange, but really I don't think that's all there is to it. Flowers are beautiful. Flowers mean to be beautiful. Flowers are beautiful on purpose, they are trying to attract attention. Oh, but I guess this argument becomes "the pretty girl is asking to be raped and killed"? Sorry, I didn't mean to go there.
But, I do like flowers. Not flower arrangements, or bouquets... just single flowers. Weedy, ragged, single flowers. Or flowers in pots or in the ground.
