I really like flowers, but isn't it odd that we give people we like the severed sex organs of plants? Or rather, isn't it odd that we assign said severed sex organs of plants all these symbolic connotations of romance, innocence, cuteness, sweetness? Yeah, they're beautiful, but they're also pretty macabre as gifts and decorations. When you think ( Read more... )

Well, my favorite flowers are roses. The real kind, not the sort you see every Singles Awareness Day. There are acres of wild roses around here, with five pale pink petals and yellow stamens and the most beautiful, truly-rose scent you could imagine. Those are the kind I especially love.

... And after that I really really like cosmos and poppies.

But roses are my favorite.

Ha ha, cool! (Have we had a discussion about this subject before? I feel as though we have, that you said something very similar to your comment here...)

Yeah, I like poppies a lot, too!

Heh, that is awesome. It's like plant genital mutilation! Yes, it is odd. Someday the aliens will come, note this strange custom, and raise a mighty eyebrow. Assuming they have eyebrows, which isn't necessarily a safe thing to assume.

I don't really have a favorite flower, but I was tempted to pick up a potted orchid at Trader Joe's recently. I refrained because I did not know if my cat would be tempted to eat it, and what the effect on his digestive system would be if he did.

I'm not sure if I have a favorite flower. Heather's favorite flowers are roses.

If you look at it as severed sex organs, it becomes strange, but really I don't think that's all there is to it. Flowers are beautiful. Flowers mean to be beautiful. Flowers are beautiful on purpose, they are trying to attract attention. Oh, but I guess this argument becomes "the pretty girl is asking to be raped and killed"? Sorry, I didn't mean to go there.

But, I do like flowers. Not flower arrangements, or bouquets... just single flowers. Weedy, ragged, single flowers. Or flowers in pots or in the ground.
