MEI LING BUILT THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!

Aug 07, 2009 23:54

[Mei is on the penultimate floor of the building, working intently at a large table, surrounded by all manner of electronic parts, currently armed with a soldering iron. She's abandoned all fashion in favor of a practical tank top and jeans for working. These, as well as large portions of her exposed arms and face, are smudged with grease and ( Read more... )

[Wandering oddly without purpose this evening, Alice happened to pass by the squalor surroundings; an intrigued eyebrow raised to the young woman tinkering away.]

A clean room would probably suit you best for your efforts, miss.

[looks up just for a second to nod shortly then goes right back to it.]

It was clean when I got here...

Great theme, btw. :D alicehazel August 8 2009, 23:10:45 UTC
[. . .]

Hn. Perhaps.
What kind of apparatus are you creating?

[Peers over, quite puzzled as to whatever it is.]

[finishes attaching a piece, a little trail of smoke coming up from the iron]

A satellite receiver, hopefully. Though, I don't know if it'll do anybody any good.

[smoooookes and watches. he's just drifting around again, being old and grumpy, as usual.] You know... in theory, I knew this was something you were qualified for, but I never pictured you doing such work.

[looks up and does a double take]

Woah, Otacon, what happened to you?

[smiles faintly] 2026 happened. Or was in the process of happening when the Nexus caught me. [He was used to that reaction by now.]

Oh, I see. [still looks surprised]

I just never thought I'd see the day when you of all people would be smoking!

[AU Mei Ling pokes her head into room and recognizes the figure working there.]

Oh, hello!

Wow, are you really me?

[recognizes her own voice and looks around in surprise]

Oh wow! I might be, kind of.

[finds herself staring and grinning, not being used to meeting herself like so many other have already done in the nexus]

I've never met one of myself before.

[Mei Ling extends her hand.]

How do you do? [Is it wrong she thinks this version of herself looks simply adorable?]

I think I met one once but it was a long time ago and we didn't get to talk for long.

[meets other Mei's hand, feeling a little weird, basically shaking her own hand]

I'm good, thanks! So, what time and place are you from, anyway?

[Well, Mei is always adorable. Three cheers for narcissism!]

"Mei Ling? Is that you?" Otacon asked, looking over her shoulder--she looked almost completely unfamiliar dressed like that and--was she wearing glasses?

"What's this you're working on?" he asked with a smile, hoping this conversation wouldn't end in her calling him Hally again.

Oh hi there, Hally! [No such luck for you, Otacon.]

Just a basic satellite receiver, which might be useless, considering there may not be any satellites around to receive from.

How have you been?

"...I wouldn't call a sattelite reciever 'basic'." he remarked, ignoring the use of his new nickname. "And I've been fine, what about you? Anything you need help with here?"

[She looked back at the receiver and considered it.]

Maybe I did get a little carried away. Honestly, I was just hoping to pick up some TV signals or something, but I haven't gotten far enough to test it yet. [She grinned a little.] I just keep thinking of more things to add.

[Sneezes, looking around in confusion. It's not like she's sneaking around naked in Alaska or anything (A wifebeater and some shorts is plenty of clothes, right?). Weird.]

... Hm? Oh, hey, what're you doing out here, Mei? Geez, what happened to you? Lose a fight with a car engine?

[turns around to face the source of the voice, to see which Meryl it is she's talking to.]

Hey there! [although, any Meryl in shorts is bound to be at least a little flustering]

Just a satellite receiver, nothing much really.

... And no. I just had to take some stuff apart to get what I needed. [She attempts to wipe some dirt off her face but it doesn't make the slightest difference.]

[And they're pretty short shorts, too. Nice and comfortable and curve-fitting. :3]

Satellite receiver? Are there even any satellites here?

[Walking over to look over her shoulder, noticing the grime and the glasses.]

. . . Glasses? Oh yeah, I forgot you had those...

[Smirking at the futile effort to wipe her face off which seems to only make the greasiness worse]

Need any help?

[Goddamn oblivious Meryls.]

[shrugs]

I don't know, but it's not like I'm short on time to waste here. I figured it was worth a try.

[gets a little embarrassed a being smirked at.]

I think I'm fine for now, though I could probably use a break.

[pauses, then remembers suddenly] Oh! I met your Mei - the Otacon Mei, I mean.
