In which Niki can't write a damn thing without tl;dr'ing all over the place...

It was perhaps the last place Fox had expected to find himself during his exploration of the nexus. In hindsight, that was probably foolish of him. But it was strange, to find FOXHOUND's HQ-no, merely a clever replica of it-just as he had left it some two, three years ago. The same, but also unusually empty, like a husk, like the shell of some dead ( Read more... )

[Footsteps echoed in those empty halls, but Solidus barely noticed the heavy sound his battlesuit made on the floor any more. Once or twice, the long metal tendrils of his Snake Arms struck against the wall, his eyes flickering sharply towards the sound only to look away again at the recognition.

His own apartment on the first floor was not his destination; no, Solidus was heading towards the kitchens. It was time to stock up on his stores; he was taking no chances lately. Not if Raiden was still around and trying to kill him. As a result, one of the undulating tentacles gripped a thick leather bag between its metal fingers, digging in so tightly that it left deep marks in the strong material. He swung it idly, boredly, as he walked, and lightly began to hum a jaunty tune.

...he could really have done with radar. Really, protagonists were all cheaters.]

[Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poooooker faaaaace~.]

It doesn't appear to be an insult. Therefore it warrants a thank you, at least.

Really, there's no way to respond to that without sounding absurd. So I picked the least absurd option.

[The oven dings and he takes his gaze off Fox with ease to attend to it. His own breed of paranoia is less obvious and more willing to be assuaged when dealing with this type of man.]

To add on to your query of earlier. What I am is not the same as who made me. I am no puppet of theirs. But words are easy, so I suppose that doesn't mean much.

So what did they do with you? Where have you been all these years?

Everywhere I needed to be. Nowhere important, not really.

With Big Boss gone, they needed someone to act as their figurehead. Their tool. The face that united them.

I was even the president for a few years.

[A figurehead with his face. He should have known.]

Revealing animosity towards your creators outright would be a foolish thing, wouldn't you agree? With the Patriots' eye on me, I had to be careful. There is a time and a place for everything, even rebellion and war. Doing their duty allowed me to prepare so I would be better able to handle it.

And how did you handle it?

With the help of a Metal Gear and a small army.

[A light shrug.]

I knew they would decide to remove me sooner or later. So when they tried, I was prepared. I broke away from them.
