Ye flipping gods, I heard about that. The whole issue is so inane I don't know where to begin. It's not like turnitin.com publishes those papers as their own work. The students retain all the rights to their work. If you submit something to the patent office, you better expect their going to check it against everyone else's to make sure it hasn't been done already. That doesn't infringe on your IP rights. If anything, it helps protect them by making it more difficult for others to copy your work ( ... )

Should turnitin really get to make money using the papers of the students that are Required to use its service?
