Aw, crap, I should have clarified. I'm all caught up on GoT -- it was more in comments or if you're introducing me to another TV show that I didn't want to be spoiled.

This is a GREAT discussion of books vs. the show. Which characters, for you, are the most perfectly cast?

We love Arya and Tyrion, although I've always had a soft spot for Sansa.

SPOILERS START HERE

Watching her learn to deal with the horrible people she's been stuck with. Seeing her begin to take the offensive has been very exciting. I'm also very fond of Margaery and her skillful "How to Win Friends and Influence People"-style manipulations.

I'm also baffled by the decisions of the TV show to turn scenes into rape that were clearly not rape in the book (I'm thinking of Danaerys's consummation and the altar scene). They completely changed those scenes, and it would not have been at all difficult to keep them as-is with a few lines of dialogue. It almost seems like there's a rape-happy producer on the show. >:(

Well, clearly Tyrion is one, as Peter Dinklage's new stardom indicates.

I think my favorite casting choices, though, have been Maisie Williams and Charles Dance. I admit that when reading the books I always pictured Tywin Lannister as Malcolm McDowell, but Charles Dance did a fantastic job with the character. Jack Gleeson did a great job as the most insufferable Joffrey Baratheon ever, too.

I love Margaery in the show! Actually, I think she's a case where the show actually did a much better job fleshing out a character than the books ever did. The books don't give you nearly as much Margaery to go on -- she could be the awesome schemer of the show, but you don't know for sure. But the way show-Margaery accepted Renly as for who he was, and the way she morphed from "seductress" to "playmate" as she felt out Tommen's personality were both incredible to see.
