Actually, I think that's an artifact of the fact that it's just created and it was seeing the last ten posts at once. As you update, assuming the RSS engine just appends new entries to the file, they should only show up as you post them.
On the other hand, if you change existing entries (which mostly happens when people syndicate their full text, then go making edits, but could maybe happen if you changed your subject lines) then LJ gets confused and can create a new entry for each change rather than changing the existing entry. I ran into trouble with that with a site where I was creating my own RSS, and I inserted something in the middle of the index after LJ had read it and suddenly it saw everything after that as "new" again. And there are a couple feeds I subscribe to where the author will regularly "fiddle" with their articles, and unintentionally drive multiple almost-identical copies into the feed in the process.
Hm, I'll have to check that, since I've been known to fiddle with posts from time to time... although it occurs to me that I've changed the text of the RSS feed at least twice now (monkeying with the length of the text sent) and it doesn't seem to have generated duplicates. Just as well - the wave o' posts has been alarming enough, even as a one-time deal.
I think I'm going to leave the text length where it is for a week or two, to give some time for my entries to get a bit more mixed in with the post stream, and then reset it to send the entire intro text.
Hm. I've added your RSS feed to my friends list, and yet I did not get the "10 posts at once" reaction. In fact, I didn't get anything new. Now I'm wondering if it worked at all.
It looks like the ten-posts-at-once thing happened when the feed was first added to LJ, so everyone winds up with the same ten-post burst (now dated a couple days ago.) Newer posts seem to be showing up normally.
Hello--we met at the cafe last night; I'm hikerchick's friend--may I ask you for more info on f5.6? I went poking on the web but didn't find a site for it. Not sure I'm barking up the right tree, anyway...I'm looking for possibilities of feedback groups to join, as we were talking about last night. Is that an appropriate place to start looking?
Thank you...I liked your work, and I appreciated your taking the time to talk with me about photography-related stuff.
