In my prayer book from Northumbria there is a wonderful phrase and idea, "embracing the heretical imperative". What the Northumbrian community means by this is a willingness to challenge assumed ideas about the practice and habits of the church, to wrestle with the difficult and seek new wisdom and insight, even if the method or manner is unorthodox -- basically, a freeing from the fear of heresy, trusting God to guide the heart to sift between wise change and foolish thought.
I love the boldness of the phrasing, the idea that we can trust God to keep us in the faith. I thought you might like it too.
