Lets get the disclaimer out of the way - front and center. Not as many nominated movies were seen this year - a record low perhaps. This doesn’t keep me from positing my best/worst though. .

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
1. Carey Mulligan, An Education
2. Rachel Weisz, The Brothers Bloom
3. Abbie Cornish, Bright Star4. Meryl ( Read more... )

-world's greatest dad was at sundance last year. i think it's funny that bobcat directed it, and wanted to see it, but missed it.
-i have seen hardly any of these films. notably ONLY 2 of your top 10!
-i have come full circle about precious. i was VERY moved when i first saw it (no clue if it was modified/tamed down before theatrical release from sundance) but i now have separated that response from the film's merit and quality, of which i feel negatively about.

exactly. the content is powerful and yet IS manipulative, so much so that (I think) people are afraid to question it lest they be considered insensitive to the content. But the film itself is artsy/odd in all the wrong ways - in ways that, in my opinion, belittle the characters ability to simple ACT the internal thoughts and emotions.
and it is all wrapped up in too pretty of a bow.

How could anyone debate you that the new Star Trek is the best Trek ever. If someone does, they are wearing Klingon Pajamas and are holding downloading "Communicator sounds" for their iPhone.

It is by far the best Star Trek movie.

Did you hate Moon are were you just not that into it?

Moon - well. Hate is a strong word, but when I was sitting through it, as it got dumber and dumber and odder and odder and I realized that I was somewhat bored and yet amazed that such a high-end Sci Fi concept could bo so thoroughly ruined...yeah, I guess I started to hate it.
and I LOVE Rockwell.

so perhaps "disappointment" is what got it on this list. Certainly, 2012 and The Knowing are crummier movies by far...

I've dreaded seeing the terminator movie. I am afraid....

I have to disagree with your analysis of Precious though. Although I agree that the movie is somewhat manipulative, I can now relate to the subject matter and praise it's attempt to bring the issues to the mainstream. In any case, I thought it was good film.
