Keane

First off, HAPPY OFFICE DAY!!!!!!!!!!  OMG, it has been way too long since we've had one of those.  I'm so excited!!!  ANDY!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly, Keane.  OMG, DAMIAN WAS SO INCREDIBLY BRILLIANT IN THIS!!!!  I thought for sure that I was going to hate the film.  It's artsy, it's going for gritty realism, it's vulgar in some parts, there's no real plot, the cinematography creates a very claustrophobic viewing experience... but I loved it!  LOVED IT!  Maybe because I have no problem staring at Damian's head for an hour and a half, or because I adore psychological films that really take you inside the character's head but still leave you going, "What in the world???" or maybe because I'm fascinated by mental illness, or maybe because I'm a sucker for Damian being fatherly, but I loved this film.  Damian was just so utterly perfect.  Was it well written?  I... don't know.  There was no plot, but I think that was the point.  This was just a very small look into William Keane's life.  He's broken, he's alone, he refuses to believe that he'll never see his daughter again, he has psychotic episodes (I don't know if he's schizophrenic or suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome or something completely different, but he has periods of normality then he gets lost in his head), and he's an alcoholic drug addict.  Very, very screwed up guy.  But then he meets this little girl, and she seems to somehow bring him closure (at least... I think that's what they were trying to say with the ending).  By the way, that little girl?  Little Miss Sunshine!  OMG!  She was so tiny!  And adorable!  And just as brilliant as Damian.  What?  Yeah, that's right, just as brilliant.  The fact that she so masterfully held her own opposite Damian and just seemed to totally get what her role in the film was supposed to be, and she was only 7.  They were just so beautiful together.  That ending?  Completely brought me tears, but then the screen went black, and I was shouting, "WHAT?  THAT'S THE ENDING?  But... but... what happens now?"  It brought back memories of The Sopranos.  Luckily it wasn't quite that level of frustrating, and the more I thought about it, the more I liked that being the last moment that we see.  Anyway, it's not exactly a great film, it's not visually appealing, there's no plot, it's full of randomness, it's kind of depressing, I had to watch Damian very graphically kissing and... doing stuff with another woman, but Damian was so brilliant that I was totally enraptured in him, and Keane's relationship with the little girl was so touching and heart breaking all at the same time and completely fascinating, that I ended up really enjoying this.  I can definitely see why Damian was considered for being nominated for an Oscar for this despite the film as a whole being not so great.  He was just... GAH!  BRILLIANT!

Oh, also... I'm totally going to make that Charlie Crews fanvid to the Johnny English song.  I've been listening to the song like crazy, and started envisioning clips from Life to use, so naturally I absolutely have to make the vid now.
