Forsyte Saga Series 2 Meta Time

OH MY GOD!!!!  PERFECT ENDING EVER!!!!  Well, the last scene anyway.  Although, I think I liked the ending to series 1 more, but this ending allowed Soames to completely redeem himself and let him walk away with a little dignity.  SO BEAUTIFUL!!!  All that I'd change is, less Jon/Fleur, and a whole lot more Soames/June.  Hee.  COME ON!  THEY'RE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER!  WHY DID GALSWORTHY NOT SEE THAT?  Psh.  Oh, and I would have loved a little more interaction between Soames and Irene, too, because as much as I hate Irene, I love how she brings out such passion in Soames, but I think the lack of Soames/Irene interaction made that last scene all the more sweeter.  But really, I was so incredibly sick of Jon/Fleur in these last two eps that I was so happy with the way that things turned out.  Plus, I'm not one for sickeningly sweet happy endings, so... that probably adds to my love of the ending to their story.

First off, from the ending of series 1, we knew that Fleur would be daddy's little girl.  Their love starts out as something so incredibly beautiful and touching, and for Soames it is both an unselfish and a selfish love.  He does everything in his power to make her happy, gives her everything she wants because he loves her SO MUCH, she is his entire world, his entire reason for living, and Fleur loves him with the very same all encompassing love that he gives her, and we get some of the sweetest, most adorable moments between them that just make me cry happy tears because Soames is so darn fulfilled.  He found life after Irene.  His marriage?  Not going so good.  But as long as he has Fleur, he has everything that he needs.  Oh, I squeed like crazy when they showed him with her dancing and laughing and... living.  And I adored the "stylish" outfit that Fleur picked out for him and how he proudly shows it off at the party simply because she picked it out for him.  GAH!  And it was just wonderful that the daughter of Soames Forsyte was such a free spirit, and she was the one thing in his life that he never felt the need to control.  Fleur was his, she always would be, and he was hers, he always would be.  And that's why it breaks my heart into a million pieces when she blames him for Jon dumping her.  The one person that Soames thought would always love him, would always take his side, ends up detesting him simply for being him.  Oh, how my heart hurt for him. :'(  Especially when he so desperately wanted her pain to go away and but he had no idea how to comfort her, in fact, she wouldn't let him comfort her, and that tore him up even more.  She was no longer his. :'(

The scene before the wedding, where Soames is so hurt that he just lays it all out there, telling Fleur everything that happened between him and Irene and finally admitting to his gravest mistake, and finally showing remorse, in fact weeping with it, and finally seeing things from Irene's point of view... oh, how my heart hurt for him.  I was weeping right along with him, and I just wanted to hug him and never let go.  This was definitely Soames' redeeming moment, and the fact that I shed absolutely no tears at the death of Jolyon but cried like crazy for Soames' pain, that should tell you how absolutely amazing Damian's performance is.  But the very last scene, between Soames and Irene, this was such an extremely satisfying moment, and it showed that Soames had finally learned, he had finally grown.  He kept his emotions in check even though Irene was right there in front of him, and they managed to actually have a real conversation with no ulterior motives involved.  He finally accepted that Irene was never his, and would never be his, and the handshake, OH!  And the satisfied smile as he walks down the driveway, so absolutely beautiful.  Loved it!

Jon/Fleur... meh.  I liked them through the first half, then they got annoying, then I started detesting Fleur for being so awful to Soames, but then I loved her again when she made up with him.  Michael Mont was awesome, and I have no idea why Fleur didn't fall in love with him.  I would have given up Jon for him in a heartbeat!

Soames/June interaction.  OMG OMG OMG!!!!!  So full of wonderfulness.  When June hears that Soames was going to be at the aunt's house, she actually gets more excited about going there because she wants to see his reaction.  Notice her little smile when she sees him.  Squeeeeeeee!!!!  I love how they are both just kind of silently looking at each other in that heated way that they do, and she waits with bated breath for his reaction to whatever she does/says.  OMG, SHE IS SO IN LOVE WITH HIM!  And then the art gallery scene, HOLY CRAP!  SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION!  June totally wants Soames, there's no doubt about it.  For someone who claims to hate him, she certainly seeks out confrontations with him quite a bit.  Gah, that art gallery scene has so much tension that it kills me.  The way they're looking at each other, how she's talking softly to him, the way that they're amused with each other, how she totally pegs the reason why he's into art and she just kind of rolls her eyes at him and he looks at her fondly.  THEY ARE SO IN LOVE!  WHY DID THEY NOT KNOW THIS?  Oh, I love them.

Soames/Annette.  So messed up and dysfunctional, and yet... it works.  They managed to be a family, and once Soames let her know that she was needed, she seemed to warm up to him a little more.

Anyway, this show was awesome from start to finish, loved it!
