OOOOOOH, MICHAEL/DWIGHT! MUST YOU INSIST ON DOING THAT TO MY HEART? :'( Dude, I love Michael/Dwight betrayal episodes so very much, but... this one... it did a number on me. My stomach was just a big bowl of tumbling knots.
OH, PLEASE TELL ME THAT THEY KISS AND MAKE UP SOON! THEIR ANGST HAS NEVER LASTED PAST ONE EPISODE! Oh god. Their friendship cannot crumble because of Charles. That's just not toward. They were so sweet with each other in the beginning! Dwight was supporting Michael! Michael was arranging secret rendezvouses in the parking lot! THEY HAD A SPOT!!! Dwight was angry at Charles for making him wear long sleeves! Oh man, Dwight fighting with his shirt was so freaking hilarious. And Michael noticed Dwight's distress over the shirt! He actually cared! But then... well... Charles gave Dwight the praise that he had longed to hear from Michael for however many years they've been working together. And that did it. In an instant Dwight realized that Michael never properly appreciated him, and it just shifted his loyalties to the new guy. The new guy threw a few compliments his way and he cheats on Michael. So not cool. My heart broke for Michael during his phone conversation with Dwight where Dwight was slyly trying to tell him that he prefers Charles now. Notice he still called Michael his hero, though. Charles is just the new cool guy that reminds him of Will Smith. And oh man, the part where Dwight betrayed him. OH GOD! MY FREAKING HEART!
LOOK AT HIM! HE LOOKS SO LOST! SO MISERABLE! And... then he totally turns on Michael without any regrets at all.
"I... understand... nothing." Michael's world has just fallen apart. Dwight is his one and only constant, and now Dwight has just hit him with a pee-filled balloon. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? HOW? Coincidence that they chose to play out this story alongside Jim saying that Pam gets him through his day? And Andy still being bitter about Angela's betrayal? Definitely not a coincidence. Dwight and Michael's relationship is probably the most like an actual marriage on this show. They have their little fights, they fuss over each other, they nag each other, they love each other without having to say it, and when they have nothing else they know they'll always have each other. And now this has happened. They've gotten divorced and are having a nasty custody battle over the clients. OH, YOU GUYS! IT IS HORRIBLE! But I am loving every minute of it. Especially when we get super suggestive lines like "I am going to come at you, and I am going to come at you hard."
Bwahahahaha. I love that Dwight is both terrified and completely turned on (as in he completely admires Michael for fighting but Michael is his HERO and his most worthy adversary).
Biggest laugh of the night? Dwight calling out "Michael!" and the camera cuts to this:
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I LOVE IT! What is her name, anyway? She's the one that Michael always gets wrong. Anyway...
LOOK! THEY EVEN HAVE THEIR OWN EQUIVALENT OF POST-BREAKUP SEX! And of course Dwight used his manly wiles for bad deeds. But first, when asked why Dwight just didn't say no to Michael's requests if he didn't want to do them, he answers "And not come through for you?" GOD! THEIR TWISTED LOVE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! Dwight can simultaneously betray and love Michael with all of his heart. And the fact that his love is always present makes it incredibly hard for Michael to tell when Dwight is deceiving him. He just can't fathom that Dwight would ever hurt him, even though Dwight has done it numerous times before. It's just... Dwight's love is ALWAYS there, and surely someone that loves Michael that much would never hurt him, right? Oh, Michael. You poor naive soul. Also, gotta love the fact that Dwight taking them out to lunch was just a ruse and he still complained about not wanting fish. Oh god. And, the sandwich? That was pure mastermind brilliance there. But again, seeing Dwight steal all that stuff and purposely sabotaging Michael's baby business did horrible things to my stomach. I mean, that's Michael's life that he's sabotaging. Michael wanted to make up with him and would have given back the big client, but Dwight had to make a war out of it. He was trying to DESTROY Michael. Oh, Dwight. You... you... you louse! You cold-hearted LOUSE!
LOOK AT WHAT YOU DID TO MICHAEL! LOOK! *sniff*
But of course, when Dwight found Michael's card for him, Dwight won me back when he was all not-surprised-but-hurt-anyway when he said what he wished was on the card: "Great salesman, better friend," then he shakes his head and turns it over. "Tall. And beets." :'(
Oh, his voice here was so heart-wrenching, and it made me remember why Dwight can do these things to Michael without feeling badly. Michael just doesn't love him with the same devotion that he loves Michael, and it hurts him. Seriously, all Michael had to do was reciprocate from time to time. *sniff* Hey, remember that time when Michael tried to save his own ass from getting fired by placing all the blame on Dwight without even flinching? See, I need to remember these things. But it's hard. Michael's so damn innocent when he's hurting.
Okay, now we get to the big "Michael betrays Dwight" moment. I honestly don't think that Michael originally intended to steal Dwight's biggest client, but Dwight's antics goaded him into it. He wanted to make Dwight hurt worse than Dwight hurt him. And Dwight? His absolute desperateness was so damn beautiful. He believes in Michael's capabilities so completely, and he knows that Michael is the superior salesman, and he wants to beat him so badly. He has this desperate need to prove himself to Michael and nothing he does is ever good enough, and anytime he goes up against Michael in something like this, he loses, and it kills a little bit of his soul. He was so heartbreakingly pathetic in the scene where he bursts into the office, and we see how Michael and Dwight could be the greatest sales team ever but here they are pitted against each other, and Michael is the one person that Dwight will always feel inferior to and this makes him do crazy things, and Dwight is the one person that Michael will always feel superior to, so it keeps him calm and makes him do his best work. GOD, IT IS SO MESSED UP! But the worst moment? The moment that turned my stomach into an acrobat of Olympic gold medal caliber? This:
Dwight changes back into his sleeves as he watches Michael woo the client, and he basically admits defeat, and he's like this broken little boy who tried to win his father's approval and failed miserably, and he's just... giving up. He's never going to get it, so he may as well stop trying.
And Michael?
He doesn't want the war. He just wants his friend back, but... he has to stay alive. GOD! THIS IS HORRIBLE! YOU GUYS! THEY ALWAYS MAKE UP AT THE END WHEN THEY FIGHT! WHAT HAPPENED? AAAAAH, I LOVE IT! BUT I HATE IT! BUT I LOVE IT!
Oh, also, something else to note, when Michael and Dwight were having their dueling salesman routine, Dwight let his anger out about Michael abandoning him. He feels like Michael left him, and that was the worst betrayal of all. Oh, Dwight. Michael is your greatest weakness, always has been and always will be. HE LOVES YOU, OKAY? HE JUST DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO SHOW IT! Why? I have no clue. I think he's just not used to people actually loving him back.
Oh, this episode, I adored it. I haven't talked that much about an ep in ages. All that talking and I didn't even mention Andy. He was adorable as always, and I love him for not getting angry about Jim's prank and instead understanding what Jim was trying to tell him. And while I am still sensitive about all Jim pranks on Andy, this one ended up being okay, because in the end he actually tried to be a friend to him. So that was nice. Anyway, this one was all about Michael/Dwight for me. They are the reason I fell in love with this show in the first place. Oh, I loved this ep. A lot.
30 Rock was okay. Not as good as the last two weeks, but it still made me laugh quite a bit. Particularly the Raven Simone reference. I love them so hard for referencing an out of date teen idol. Of course, they threw in the Cyruses too, so... And, the Jack/Liz phone call was adorable. Also, there was one bit that instantly made me think of
tinted_glass. I'm not going to say which bit because I don't want to ruin the joke, but if she watches the ep tonight, she'll know what I'm talking about. Also, Kenneth and Dot Com made this episode for me. I loved them. Also, Pete's reaction to the news about Jenna cracked me up pretty hard.
Parks and Recreation! It's growing on me, I think. I just find Leslie so darn adorable that I can't not care about her. The show itself is a little mediocre, but Leslie is so wonderful. And her mother! I hope we get more there in the future, because I adore mother/daughter stories. And, I think I'm shipping Leslie/Mustache Dude even harder than I was last week. I... I don't know what's wrong with me. Why must I always fall for ships that will never, ever happen? And, I'm still loving Leslie/Ann. They are so the show's OTP, but I can't help myself from loving Leslie/Mustache Dude. It's the whole boss/employee thing. I don't know why I always go for that. Plus, age gap. I can't help it.
Also, I watched My Name is Earl for the first time in 3 or so years. I forgot how much I used to love that show. I ended up giving it up for Ugly Betty. It's really just frivolous viewing, but it makes me laugh like crazy. I am a sucker for slap stick, what can I say? I know the comedy snobs don't care for the show, but it still makes me giggle. Not as much as it did in season 1, but it kept me entertained. Still though, I miss Ugly Betty.
And... I think that was all of my Thursday night viewing. Whew.
