The Evolution of my Ships Bonus Features

Aug 13, 2008 16:47

So, you all rule so hard for reading my humongous list of ships and commenting.  I honestly thought everyone would be like, "Holy crap, this chick's crazy, I'm not reading all of that," but you came, you read, you contributed, and you guys rule, because seriously, that took me an effing long time to write.  I'd been composing it since Saturday night.  Anyway, as I was reading through the comments and other people's ships, I realized that I had forgotten a few.  So now I bring you the extras.

I actually edited this first one into my second post, but most had already read it by then, so I'll put it here too:

Soames/June - The Forsyte Saga

Sure, they're cousins, but you know what?  Their tension was too beautiful to let that fact hinder their awesomeness.  And cousins married each other in those days.  Anyway, June and Soames mirror each other both in personality and their misfortune in love.  They both love so intensely and so loyally that neither one of them can let go, even after their love betrayed them so horrendously (and is it coincidence that the love of Soames' life tried to run off with the love of June's life?  I think not).  I'm not sure if the sexual chemistry between them was done on purpose or if it was just the actors, but either way, I love it. For some reason, when Soames interacts with June, he really treats her like an equal, and I can't think of anyone else that he does that with. Even after she tears him down (which she pretty much does every time they talk with each other), instead of getting steaming angry like he does with everyone else, he actually listens to what she says, and she manages to make him reevaluate himself, and she basically opens his eyes to reality. Is she a bit harsh during the funeral scene? Well... yeah, but for some reason I don't blame her. She made him acknowledge his own faults, which is something that he needed to do. Now, I mostly blame Irene for everything, but poor Soames made some very bad moves, and he needed to realize that. There were faults on both sides.  Then in series 2 the flirty eyes between Soames and June were out of control, and it's just amazing how June was so drawn to him and how she always got a kick out of seeing him (who can blame her?  Really, the man is gorgeous) and she always, always believed that he would change, that he would forget about Irene and learn from his mistakes, but he never did (until the end) and it frustrated her and amused her and she wanted to hate him, but they were so much alike, and that's why she so completely understood him and his heartache.  They were soulmates, and I wanted them to end up together so badly, and they could have been happy together, but alas, my wishes never came true. *sigh*

Derek/Casey - Life With Derek

Sure, they're step siblings, but you know what?  Still ship them.  In fact, the forbiddeness is part of the attraction.  They have a whole lot of sexual tension between them that probably shouldn't be there considering it's a family show, but it gives their relationship another dimension.  They were both so incredibly against considering each other brother and sister, and it could be argued that part of the reason is because they have an attraction to each other that they aren't able to act on.  Derek's number one pleasure and obsession in life is pranking Casey and he gets so giddy when she shouts his name and chases after him.  Casey wants nothing to do with him, and yet she can't resist interfering in absolutely every aspect of his life.  He's the only boy that she's ever herself around, and he's the only girl that he ever shows his whole self to.  They act like they want to change each other, but in actuality they love each other just the way they are.  They are opposites that complete each other and are most definitely begrudging soulmates.  They're a great team when they work together, and there are so many instances where Derek and Casey are shown to be the mother and father of the family (even though George and Nora are the parents, but... sometimes they're more like kids than the kids), and there are often scenes where they are like an old married couple.  Mostly?  It's the sexual tension.  Which is the fault of the actors.  Especially in the scenes where they get in each other's faces and talk menacingly.

Lauren Davis/Scott Guber - Boston Public

Come on, how could you not ship these two?  Seriously.  Guber was so completely inept when it came to socializing, but he had such an intense love for Lauren that he couldn't contain himself, and he came on WAY TOO STRONG.  In fact, he reminds me of Soames Forsyte in many respects.  He was fueled by his obsession with Lauren, wanted to call something so beautiful his, and she was a generally nice person who didn't want to hurt his feelings, but he hung on so hard that she inevitably had to, several times, but he kept on loving her.  And behind Scott's bullyish nature as a vice principal, he was actually very sensitive and tender and he had so much love to give.  But he was also frightened and lonely and he just put Lauren on a goddess status, and he was shocked whenever she didn't meet his fantasy of her.  And it was just so messed up, and I loved every minute of it.  But then Lauren left the show, and I was heartbroken, so I stopped watching (plus, the show got really bad after season 2).  But this ship made me squee, it kicked my grief bone in the nuts, then it made me squee again, and then it disappeared. :'(

Margaret/Mr. Thornton - North & South

OMG, how these two tortured me.  Seriously, they were wonderful.  This whole miniseries was wonderful, but Margaret and Thornton made it so heart-wrenchingly addictive.  I watched it non-stop for months.  The heartache, the miscommunication, the prejudice, the stubborn pride... GAH!  I loved it.  And yeah, the love story was pretty much Pride and Prejudice, but it was more dramatic, had more passion running through it, more heartache, more misfortune.  The scene where she rejected his proposal, OMG!  I was dying to see the conclusion, but stupid Blockbuster took two weeks to send me the rest.  I was flaming angry and I watched every clip that was available on the internet.  But oh, how that scene killed me.  I love this miniseries, quite possibly even more than I love Pride and Prejudice.  It was very well done and so beautifully shot, and I adore the music.  But this is what made me fall in love with Richard Armitage.

*dies a little*

Geraldine/David, Geraldine/Harry - Vicar of Dibley

So, for the actual show, I shipped Geraldine/David (the vicar and the bald guy).  Their relationship was so damn beautiful and full of so much prejudice/hate turned admiration turned pride turned fondness turned pure love.  David loved Gerladine, plain and simple.  He hated her, then he fell madly in love with her charm and her ability to screw everything up then fix it all and she made him smile and she made him be a better man because he didn't want her to be able to hold anything over his head.  They teased each other mercilessly and they were just plain adorable.  And David even proposed to her (which I never truly expected because it was so damn good and it made me squee), and she seriously considered it, but then she broke his heart like I knew she would, because she didn't love him like that. *sigh*  And then the Christmas special/series 5 came along and Richard Armitage showed up and I was like, "Okay, forget David.  RICHARD ARMITAGE OMG OMG OMG!!!"  And because Dawn French wrote it, of course she made Harry perfect in every way, because she wanted to make out with Richard as much as possible.  And they were adorable and you could really see the love between them and how instantly they became soulmates and it was just so damn convincing after 1 scene, that's how awesome their chemistry was and how lovable both of the characters were. *dreamy sigh*  Greatest ending to a show ever.  And Harry was even in the joke scene with Geraldine and Alice.  It was adorable.

Okay, I think that's it.  I'm sure I'll think of more later.

And just in case you missed it:
