Summary Kagome returns home from America in 2001

Part of Old Fort Boise

The shrine was not like she remembered it either in the past or in the future. Edo had reached out and grabbed the Sunset Village. The village was gone. In its place was a sprawling suburb. Not modern but squalid. She missed the rice fields and the tiny village.

Leading the boys up the stairs she was shocked at what she saw. All the old shrines that had been there durng Kikyou and Kaede's tenure as miko were gone. The trees had been cleared so that it was now possible to go from Goshinboku to the well without hitting another tree.

Unlike her era. Inuyasha's forest was still there just there but she and Inuyasha has cleared the youkai from it. Now it was just oranamental. The priests house stood where her house stood two hundred years in the future.

There were no visitors. No miko. Just a priest. She remembered her family history. The Higurashis were only named priests of the Sunset Shrine after the Meiji Revolution brought the Shinto religion to the forefront. They had picked the winner and fought by the Emperor;s side. The shrine was their reward.

Ji-chan had always derided the priests who proceeded the Higurashis and he was right. The shrine was so much better in her time. All that was recognizable was Goshinboku and the well shrine. Even the storage shed where the artifacts and archives were stored was different.

Inuyasha and the boys stopped in front of Goshinboku where the spot where Inuyasha hung for fifty yars was still visible. Goshiiboku was important to her, but the well shrine was where her journey began and where it ended. She simply had to see it.

Opening the door she felt time ripple in front of her. Although she had not gone through time in two hundred fifty years it was an experience she would never forget. When the wave passed she saw her mother staring into the well and crying.

She blnked That was impossible Her mother would not be be born for more than one hundred fifty years. When she opened her eyes again her mother was gone. Maybe it was just that she wanted to see her mother again so much, that she saw her now. If only her wishes came true

That was why they were gong to America To avoid Japan's change. To avoid interfereing with her own timeline. Life would be rrough in the West. Her knowledge was based on her middle school cram books which were her prized possessions. She was convinced that they could succeed. They had survived the Sengoku Ji-dail How bad could the wild west be?

"Mama wake up" Kagome's heard those words and remembered a time in 1819 when her boys were yelling at her to wake up because Donald McKenzie was about to arrive looking for the boys. Amazingly they were camped at the place they called home from 1854-1942.

"Mama we will landing at Narita in thirty minutes. Look at this wikipedia article"

Kagome took laptop and stared at the page. She immediately saw the humor in the article. A county in Idaho named after three Hawaiian trappers who got lost from Donald McKenzie's Northwest company trapping expedition A Shoshone chief even claimed they had been killed.

It was amusing now that it was one hundred seventy nine years in the past At the time she was just glad that the boys had been able to slip away from Mckenzie's expedition with the excuse that they would explore the Snake River.

Kagome laughed. History was full of lies. They were mistaken for Hawaiians. Mackenzie presumed them dead. That is how legends were made Instead, they simply vanished from history. Reappearing only when they wanted to reappear.

Hopefully, they had not done much damage to history. Home was within reach now. The vision of the future she had seen before she left Japan was within her grasp. She just needed to reach out and grab it. In a few hours she would finally be able to open the door to the well shrine and tell her mother that she was home. The wish that she made so long ago had been granted.
