Sankon Tessou" rang through out the forest as splinters flew everywhere. The boys stared at their handiwork. Nothing but splinters and saw dust was left of the firewood. They thought themselves clever. Fulfilling their firewood quota with the army without really working
The saws and axes simply were too slow. Too much like work. It reminded them of all the firewood they chopped over the last twelve years at Fort Boise. Chores were such a pain and Papa made them even more painful when they were not done right.
That was why they struck out on their own. No more checking Papa's trap line on the Powder River. They had tried mining at Silver City. Also too much like work Chopping firewood would be easy If only the spell would work.
"Fucking morons Have none of you being paying attention since we came from Japan. This is the way you chop down a tree. you don't need any axes or saws." With those words, Inuyasha knocked over the nearest tree with one chop of his hands.
"That is how it is done What the fuck are doing up here working for the army anyway? You remember Conner from Bear River. He was up here last summer trying to kill every Indian male he could find. These bastards are more of the same"
"I was proud of you at Bear River You protected the defenseless without using your power to kill humans. I am not proud of you now. You are helping the Army take away the lives of the people we have lived with since we came from Japan. Your mother is pissed. When she is pissed, I am pissed. Go home and tlell her you are sorry I will check the trrapline myself."
Red Cloud who had been listening to the entire conservation truned to Young Man Afriad Of His Horses." Sounds like a dog snapping at his puppies"
Inuyasha turned his head "Wind Scar" he screamed Instantly, the thousand Indians who were watching from the trees. They stared at the creature in red with a sword Five fingers of fire sphead from the sword. It was amazing that no one had been injured.
Suddenly Red Cloud realized who these people were. They were the legendary dog soldiers of Bear River fame. Persons to be avoided at all costs Never to be antagonized. He signaled his warriors to retreat, but ot before Inuyasha screamed at him in Japanese
"Just stay the fuck away from us and we will stay away from you."
Red Cloud nodded. He did not need to know what was said to understand the gist of what was said. Inuyahsa watched them disappear. When they were gone, Inuyasha turned to the boys.
"Didn't you idiots even notice that you were surrounded. It's a good thing your mother loves. If you ever do anything as stupid as this, I will take all of you over my knee and paddle you with Tessaiga."
The boys nodded. They remembered paddings which caused their behinds to be sore for days. Mom finally made him stop it, but out here Mom was not there to protect them. there would be no more wood chopping for the army
