Disconnect, Ambivalence, and the OTW

So I have mixed feelings about the OTW in general. Some days, I love the OTW; other days I legitimately find I couldn't give less of a fuck. I think what it comes down to is that I want to like the OTW - I want to support them and get involved and help them out - but at the very same time I deeply mistrust a lot of what I see, I give a very ( Read more... )

I have no idea about OTW, but any conversation with sharks in it is good in my book.

I had to go google the OTW to figure out what they're about. Oops, I fail fandom.

I think I stand where you do - firmly "eh." Fandom is not srs bznz for me but I like AO3 and hey, SOMEONE's gotta take this stuff seriously, right?

Also, googling OTW led me to info about FanLib and whoa, nelly. Talk about doing it wrong.

To me, OTW will always be a bunch of educated, privileged women trying to shove fandom into some sort of academic, This Is Important corner and ignoring anything that couldn't really fit into Specialized College Course 101. OTW just isn't the place for me. I've never followed the trends of the OTW hivemind and probably never will.
